If you haven’t bought mom a Mother’s Day gift yet, there’s till time to pick something up, that doesn’t look like it’s a “last-minute” idea. Here’s some great (and inexpensive) gifts from stores that are in most areas….and next year, don’t wait till the last minute.
This multistrand heart necklace makes an impact but is still simple and elegant. It’s on sale at Kohl’s for $14.00 and is something mom can wear year after year, season after season.
I personally am a woman who likes appliances and kitchen items as gifts because I’ll use them. If your mom loves to cook, this Lodge cast iron skillet is a perfect idea. Cast iron may seem old-fashioned but it’s an excellent choice if she needs a new pot or pan because it conducts heat beautifully, goes from stove top to the oven with no problems and it will literally last for decades. I’ve asked several chefs I know what their favorite material is to cook with and they say hands down, cast iron. This is a great price at $19.79.
Another great idea for moms who enjoy cooking is a cookbook. Choose one that you think would interest her tastes and cooking expertise. If your mom doesn’t ever bake, a baking book probably wouldn’t interest her. I have been a fan of Chef Curtis Stone since I first saw him and his fifth book looks fabulous. He is a new dad who now knows what it’s like to have less time to spend in the kitchen yet wants to prepare delicious meals that are easy. This totally fits the bill. You can find this at Barnes and Noble for $22 (hardback).
This crossbody bag has ruching, metallic studs, and comes in five colors. It’s edgy yet feminine and only $25 at JCP.
Moms who enjoy spending time outdoors will enjoy watching hummingbirds gather around this elegant and colorful antique looking feeder. You can find this at Lowe’s for $17.98.
Masterpiece Theater Downtown Abbey has been a critical success, winning awards and fans since it began. If your mom is a fan, or hasn’t become hooked yet, this first season is a great way to introduce her to this series. You can find this at Wal-Mart for $16.96.
A note from Trig the web-dude: “This show is one of the best shows on TV right now. You think it’s going to be all stuffy and boring, and it is anything but. Get it for Dad in a month, too.” ; )
This Charter Club cardigan is pretty and functional. Black and white, which is always in fashion, with the cute flower appliques, this is on sale for $19.99 at Macy’s. Love it!
Yankee candles smell so good and you can find them at a lot of different stores. These are available at Bed Bath and Beyond, with varying prices, depending on the size you purchase. I love the exotic smell of this pineapple cilantro scent that you can purchase for $20.00 for the larger size. Yankee candles are one of those things I won’t buy for myself (unless I can find them on clearance), because I think they are kind of a splurge, but I love to receive them! Lots of wonderful smelling aromas to choose from.
For $25 at Bath and Body Works, you can pick up a scented body lotion, shower gel, and fragrance mist. The Japanese Cherry Blossom fragrance is fabulous floral scent that’s not too overwhelming but brings to mind exotic, lush gardens. I once asked for this lotion for three years in a row (and did get it) because I love it so much.
This is an easy way for mom to add a pop of color to her spring/summer wardrobe. For less than $10 you get a set of 12 bangles that she can wear all at once or just one at a time. If there’s a mall in your area, chances are there’s a Forever 21 store in it.
