The Top Ten Zoos According to TripAdvisor-Enter to Win 2 Free Tickets (NEW Contest!)
I was thrilled when TripAdvisor came out with their 2012 top ten picks for zoos in America and our Cheyenne Mountain Zoo made the list!
The BIG List of Consignment/Resale & Thrift Stores
This list is mostly clothing, misc, and furniture….I didn’t include bookstores, which would be a whole other list! Also, a lot of these stores sell other items besides the category I put them in (for example, Consignment of Collectibles sells clothing and furniture and collectibles) but they are listed first under furniture so that’s where I put them.
FREE Online Education Courses From “Elite” Colleges (No joke… we’re talking Harvard and MIT, people. For FREE!)
Ever wanted to take classes from the best Ivy League and tech colleges and universities in the world? Well, now you can, for FREE!
August Hostess Gift Ideas, Part 2…..From Manitou Springs
Last week I shopped in Manitou for my $10 or less hostess gifts and there were so many great shops that I had to continue with more great finds I found this week.
Our $400 Plus “Free” Cat….And My Favorite Humane Society Furry Friends…
Meet Smokey, our newest addition to the family. We got Smokey from the Humane Society when they were giving their cats away for free (besides the $15 license fee) to make room for all the evacuated pets they were keeping for the Waldo Canyon Fire evacuees.
August Hostess Gifts (Part 1)….From Manitou Springs
It’s been awhile since I’ve shopped in Manitou Springs so I decided to grab my camera and notebook and see what unique hostess (or any occasion) gifts I could find…for $10 or less….hoping to find at least a few ideas. Well, I had forgotten how cool the stores are and ended up finding a lot more $10 or less gifts than I imagined. So I’ve decided to feature just a couple of shops each week for the month of August so I can really give you a better idea of the stores and merchandise there.
Saving Money On Back-To-School
I know we’ve focused on back-to-school ideas a lot lately but it is a big expense for those who have children, and even if you don’t, chances are you have a friend or family member who does, so hopefully you can use this information. And after reading this, if you have any money-saving ideas you’d like to share, we’d love to hear them!
Motorhead Traveler Visits Colorado Springs….And Executive Chef Cooks Rocky Mountain Cuisine In My Backyard!
It was beyond thrilling for me to use our backyard for the TV show Motorhead Traveler (a Canadian TV show)…and to have Executive Chef Scott Savage (from The Cliff House in Manitou Springs, which just so happens to be a 4 diamond restaurant) cooking up Rocky Mountain cuisine on our humble grill!
Decorating With Thrift Store and Retail Clearance Items…a “Peek” Inside Ashley’s House
I shop all the time at thrift stores and retail clearance aisles for clothes and shoes but they are also great places to pick up decorative items for your home…especially if you’re on a budget.
Retail Secrets? …
Yahoo! just put out an article about retails secrets. a) I’m not sure they’re secrets and, b) I don’t agree with all of them. What about you?
Freezing Herbs in Butter, Oil or Broth….Saves You Time and Money
This is a great way to use up herbs you grow or buy in the grocery store, especially the ones you buy because they can be expensive and you typically don’t use all of them in a single recipe.
Clutter…What Do You Think?
Let’s face it: clutter is a problem. I found a great article on why it it important to de-clutter your life. I’d love to hear your thoughts.
Pork Chops With Pineapple-Mango Salsa, Spicy Grilled Corn and Salt-Crusted Baked Potatoes-($10 or Less Meal)
This is a super easy dinner…quick enough for a hectic week-night, or for when you have guests over for a laid-back barbecue. I cook the potatoes (in the microwave) and boil the corn on the cob, then finish them off on the grill for some extra flavor. Make your salsa and corn sauce before you cook the chops, have your potatoes and corn cooked and ready to add to the grill and everything will be finished at the same time. Then entire meal came in at around $7.00 (the chops, mango, potatoes, corn and cilantro were on sale).
Happy 4th Of July!
I found this site by Nicholas Cardot and thought it was beautiful with the words and pictures he shared. Please enjoy and perhaps take a minute to reflect on our freedom, our country and our patriotism. Our country may not be perfect, but there’s no other place I’d rather live! And as we’ve seen here in Colorado, when our fellow citizens are in trouble and need help, we are there for one another.
Fourth of July Events….And Ways You Can Help With The Waldo Canyon Fire
Firework shows have been cancelled this year because of the extreme fire danger but that doesn’t mean there aren’t things to do in and around our city.
$9.99 or Less June Hostess Gift Ideas….From World Market
It’s always nice to take a hostess/host gift when you’re invited to someone’s house for dinner, and while it’s totally appropriate to gift them with a bottle of wine or flowers, why not get creative and take something a little different?
Spring Clean Your (Clothes) Closet
Let’s Be Honest… Keeping your clothes-closet organized and uncluttered is a challenge for a lot of women. Clothes are personal and can evoke memories, and create a mood (and of course keep you from running around naked!). When was the last time you grabbed an article of clothing from your closet, put it on, looked […]
Throw An Inexpensive But Fabulous Baby Shower!
Hopefully this will give you some ideas for a party or shower you might be hosting in the future. Using what you already have in a different way (like the football dish), and picking up paper products and little decorations from a dollar store can really help you save money.
