I saw these super cute coasters my friend Chris made and thought they were perfect for gift-giving so I wanted to share. They are unique, affordable, and so easy to make. I think these are perfect for family, friends, teachers, c0-workers, or whoever else you might be gifting this year.
Chris got her tiles at Goodwill of Colorado for a steal. You could also check out the ReStore which helps Habitat for Humanity. And of course all the big retail stores carry them. Make sure tiles are free of dust and dirt.
This project doesn’t require tons of supplies and the supplies you do use are affordable and easy to find.
SUPPLIES:
4-inch ceramic square tiles
paper*
MOD PODGE
paint brush for spreading glue
scissors or craft knife
ruler
hot glue gun and glue
felt
clear acrylic spray gloss
-
Chris used stock card paper but you could also use wrapping paper, scrapbook paper, comic book pages, pages from old books, photos, wallpaper, maps, sheet music, tickets from events, postcards, etc. This is where you can get crafty and really personalize the coasters for family and friends.
DIRECTIONS:
Cut paper and felt into squares. You want to leave a small border around the edge of the tiles so for a 4-inch square tile, cut paper and felt into 3.5-inch squares.
Completely paint blank side of paper with MOD PODGE, making sure you get all the edges.
Place on tile and press firmly to remove any air bubbles. You could even use a drinking glass and roll it over the paper to smooth it out even more and make sure there are no bubbles. Wait for glue to dry, about 15 minutes.
Brush MOD PODGE over top of paper, wait 15 minutes, and apply another layer. Again, you want to make sure you completely seal over all the paper with glue.
Let dry overnight.
Spray with clear acrylic gloss, let dry, and spray again. Let dry.
Using hot glue gun, glue felt to bottom of tile. You could also use adhesive felt pads.
For gift-giving you could stack 4 tiles and tie ribbon around them.
