I really admire people who come up with these brilliant and thrifty ways to repurpose items we typically toss. I have personally used quite a few of these ideas in our own home which saves me money, helps our planet, and doesn’t involve us having to buy gadgets and items that serve only one purpose.
I save all my old wash cloths, towels, socks, and tees that are stained, have holes, or are just really ragged for my cleaning and dusting cloths. I mean, why buy rags to clean with? I also save our old toothbrushes for cleaning, after sterilizing in the dishwasher first. All of my tall boots hold their shape because of empty paper towel rolls or rolled-up magazines inserted in them.
- When my rags are too worn to even be rags, I donate them to our local Discover Goodwill in bags labeled “rags” which won’t go on their retail floor but rather be donated to recycling programs.
These might be “little” ways you’re repurposing “trash” but they all add up.
And if I had a large enough outdoor space that our deer couldn’t reach, I would absolutely try the mattress spring “flower wall” idea mentioned in this great article!
