Pumpkins are plentiful right now and on sale. Here’s a fun way to use them as vases for your dinner table, coffee table or a shelf. And if you have a jack-o-lantern (that hasn’t molded or caved in yet) with cut outs only on one side, you could put a bowl in it filled with water and use these same ideas, with the carved out side facing a wall. Nothing fancy, just bringing a bit of outdoors inside in a clever and quick way.
How easy could it get….just fill a carved out pumpkin with water (if you’re putting it on something that can get ruined if the water leaks, put a bowl inside the pumpkin and fill with water) and fill with fresh flowers or, if you don’t want to mess with the water, use artificial flowers.
Another way to bring in the outdoors is to literally bring in the outdoors….with pinecones….take a walk in your backyard, a park or any hiking trail and they’re free.
Add a few cinnamon sticks to your pine cones and poke some cloves in your pumpkin and your house will smell so good!
Or fill your pumpkin up with pine cones and a candle.
Artificial or fresh leaves can take the place of flowers…add a few stems of berries and fresh or artificial fruits or vegetables.
Place your pumpkin on a decorative pedestal and you have a whole new look with the same arrangement. If you are using this as a centerpiece while dining, you’d want to take it off the pedestal because it would be too tall….you want your guests to be able to see each other.
This is what we have on our own dining room table right now. When we have guests over, I move it to the coffee table. I added some twigs and taller flowers to give it some dimension.
These are just a few examples of how you could create a pumpkin flower vase. Fresh or artificial flowers, leaves, twigs…..free pinecones and/or a candle you probably already own….quick, easy, and inexpensive.
