A couple of years ago I bought a Keurig coffee maker (when it was on sale of course.) I was so excited that I could have coffee in a matter of seconds but after trying practically every flavor of coffee pods available, and drinking as much as I do, I realized I was spending a lot more money than I did with my regular drip coffee maker. So now, I only use it once a day or so, when I need a quick picker-upper. My husband though, who only drinks a couple of cups of coffee a day, uses it every morning so it was still a good deal for us.
I mention all of that because since I don’t use it that much, I’ve never really given any thought to the coffee/tea pods that are tossed in the recycle bin. Then the other day my friend Margaret sent me this article on how to reuse/repurpose those empty Keurig pods and I thought some of the ideas were pretty cool. Two ideas I’ll be trying are using the empty pods to freeze herbs, and as seed starters next spring.
Once you’ve used a coffee/tea pod, tear off the foil and empty the grounds out. Once the grounds are out, you’ll see a tiny filter at the bottom that you can pull out. Then just wash and let dry (don’t put in the dishwasher cause they will melt or warp.)
Want to be even more frugal? Don’t throw those grounds out…
