It’s the middle of the summer…have your kids said they’re bored yet? Do you have challenges getting them away from the TV or video games? Encourage them to go outside and play with these fun but very inexpensive outdoor toys…all costing $1 each at the Dollar Tree.
All of these also make great children’s birthday party favors. You could also bundle these up for a birthday present or if you have friends with small children who come over on a regular basis, or you have grandchildren, these are all fun items to have around the house. Last month my husband and I were out of town and we had the neighbors watch our cats (they have two younger children.) As a “thank-you” to the kids, I gave them items just like these and I see them outside still playing with them.
Whenever we pull out the hula hoop when having family/friends over, not only do the kids want to use it but so do the adults. At this price, you could have several and have hula-hooping contests. When I was trying to lose weight, I would hula hoop in the evenings during commercial breaks…it wasn’t like going to the gym, but it was getting up and moving, which always helps burn calories.
I have been watching our neighbor kids playing with the butterfly nets I gave them on an almost daily basis. For a dollar, the nets are fairly strong and a month later, still holding up quite well.
This water squirter not only squirts water, it makes some fun noises too when empty.
There’s nothing “fancy” about these kites but they do fly and are super easy for smaller kids to handle. Two kites for a dollar.
Anything that helps incorporate exercise in your child’s routine is a good thing. According to kidshealth.org , 1 out of 3 children are either overweight or obese. A simple jump rope can help them get fit and be fun! If you’re throwing a kid’s birthday party, you could make up games with the jump ropes and hula hoops. http://kidshealth.org/parent/general/body/overweight_obesity.html
I was at one of the large discount retail stores and saw the same exact pail and shovel selling for $4.99…this is a dollar…for the same thing.
I’ve featured this box of sidewalk chalk before because I think it’s such a great deal….20 big pieces, in various colors for a buck! Enough for days or weeks of fun for your little artist and there’s no clean-up involved…just wait for the rain.
Two different size bats to better fit smaller or larger hands…and if someone “accidentally” gets whacked, it’s not going to hurt as much as wood or metal! These also make great substitutes in case an impromptu sword fight breaks out.
Bubbles are a big hit no matter the age! I pull out all our bubble blowers even when we don’t have kids over for a gathering because the adults like to play with them too. There are tons of different ones to choose from at the Dollar Tree.
A pile of dirt, leaves or rocks become more fun when you can shovel, move or rake them.
Just a few examples of inexpensive summer fun for the kids that will keep your kids entertained and active. These are all easy to store or tote around too to the beach or park.
