I thought I knew everything there was to know about alternative uses for rubbing alcohol. For years I have cleaned and disinfected with it and have been pleased with the effectiveness and super affordable price. It’s one of those products I always have on hand and since there are so many ways you can use it, you can easily replace other cleaners that are more expensive and take up space.

55 Ways To Use Rubbing Alcohol…And SO Budget-Friendly! – 719woman.com
And then I ran across this great article from sharably.net and realized I didn’t even know half of what simple rubbing alcohol could do. There are quite a few of these tips I’ve already been using in my kitchen and bathroom but there were so many I hadn’t even heard of. I decided to try 3 of these ideas to see if they really worked…
Stretch too tight shoes –
The first tip I tried was using rubbing alcohol to stretch a few pair of pumps that were a bit tight, which meant I wasn’t wearing them (and because I love them, kept holding onto). I had actually read this tip before but didn’t try because in the back of my mind I doubted it would work.
Following the directions, I dipped a cotton swab in rubbing alcohol and rubbed it on the inside of the toe area, which is where my shoes were tight. I then put on a heavy pair of socks and put the shoes on. I kept the shoes on for a couple of hours and made sure I walked around the house a few times. And…I kid you not, it worked!!
Now my shoes weren’t so tight that I couldn’t even get them on but they were tight enough that after about 10 minutes, they hurt. I will be performing this little trick on a few more pairs.
Clean tarnished jewelry –
This was super easy! I followed the directions of adding a squirt of dish soap with warm water and a cap of rubbing alcohol in a small bowl. I soaked my ring for 5 minutes, gave the ring a quick brush with a soft brush and dried with a soft cloth.
Here are my results.

Remove nail polish from nails?
I swear I had never heard of using rubbing alcohol to remove nail polish. If I had and it worked, why would I spend money on polish remover?
