I love animals and luckily my husband does too. We have 4 cats ranging in ages from 3 to about 12 and they keep us laughing and happy. But as any pet owner knows, it can be like having children in the house, with them getting into things they shouldn’t. With our children grown and out of the house, I’ll admit, our cats now pretty much rule our world. Seriously.
(We have cats but we also have 4 grandogs…meet our oldest Bacon, and youngest Eevee.)
I know there are certain plants and flowers I should never let the cats around since they can be toxic, not to mention they like to dig, so any we have are kept in rooms they aren’t allowed in. Yes, we do have a few rules around here, even if they don’t heed them. I’ve never personally had a cat get sick from ingesting plants but one of our cats would get bald spots if she rubbed up against certain plants.
Besides plants and flowers, there are all kinds of things around the house that can wreak havoc with a cat or dog and their health. I recently read that unbaked bread dough can make dogs and cats sick. Who knew? Not that I’d be feeding any of them that but our naughty cats do occasionally jump on the counters where there might be a bowl of dough rising. Dental floss, along with string in general, can cause intestinal problems if swallowed and fabric softener sheets contain chemicals and fragrances that can cause skin and respiratory irritations.
