This is such a great idea and so simple to do. If you have children and crayons, odds are, you have a collection of broken crayons or crayons so short, it’s hard for little fingers to use. Instead of tossing them out, you can melt them down and create “new” crayons in whatever fun shapes you want. And it’s so easy and really works.
Remove paper from crayons and place in muffin tins.
Bake for 10 minutes at 275 degrees. Carefully remove from oven.
Let cool till set, about 20 minutes. Pop out of tins and voila, new crayons! (Mine popped right out but if you have any that stick, place in freezer for about 10 minutes and then pop out.)
This would be a fun project for kids (with an adult doing the oven part). I also think this would be a fun project for a group to do and then donate the crayons to a local children’s hospital or shelters that house children…take up a collection of broken crayons, and maybe even blank paper or coloring books and really make a child in need a bit happier.
Easy, free (since you’re using broken crayons you already have,) and fun.
