Last month I tried out the Lint Lizard, an “As Seen On TV” product to see if it worked (because those commercials always make the products look like “miracle” products!) It worked a bit (for me), but I ended up returning it because I didn’t think the results were that great.
The Next “As Seen on TV” Contender: Gray Away Root Concealer
This month I decided to see if the GRAY AWAY root concealer works because I know a TON of women who are always having challenges with keeping their gray roots at bay. As I do all the time. I am awful at getting to the salon before my roots are hideous and the boxed root concealers do not work on my hair. I have tried at least three different brands of the boxed concealers, in various colors, and they just don’t do the trick. I mix up getting my hair colored at the salon and doing it from a box, in an attempt to save money and I always try to keep a box stashed in case of an emergency. But even with that, sometimes I find myself in a situation where I don’t have time to get those gray roots covered and I’m going to be in public.
Last week I had the color and was going to touch up my roots as much as possible the night before we filmed our cooking video. Why I thought I’d have time and waited till the last minute, I do not know. The morning of filming I saw my roots and almost fainted they were so bad. Trig was going to be at the house in an hour and I still had food prep to get finished. I literally started looking for a brown marker to try to color the grey a bit but all I could find was red, green and blue. Well, when I saw the video and my hair, I swore I had to find a solution so I’d never look like that again!
I’ve seen the commercials on TV for the GRAY AWAY root concealer that supposedly touches up your grey instantly, matches your hair color and doesn’t look fake. I’ve never even been tempted to try it in the past, assuming it wouldn’t work and it would be a waste of my time and money. But now I decided to give it a whirl and see if it worked. I actually bought my GRAY AWAY at Bed Bath & Beyond. It was priced at $9.99 but I had a 20% coupon so it only cost $7.99. (Sign up for 20% off Bed Bath & Beyond coupons to be mailed to your home at www.bedbathandbeyond.com ) If you order the GRAY AWAY from the As Seen On TV site, you will pay $9.95 plus shipping (for my location that is an additional $6.95).
The Pitch
Here’s what the product claims….
Instantly covers gray roots between hair colorings without dyes or harsh chemicals. Extends the life of your hair color. Just spray and go. Temporary color and contains no dyes, ammonia or peroxide. Doesn’t flake or rub off, even after brushing. Color won’t come out till you wash it. Provides even, natural looking coverage. Matches your natural hair color.
Sounds way too good to be true.
The Results
Well, here’s the before picture…
And here’s the after….
LOVE IT!!! It was so easy! The precision applicator made it go on the exact spots I wanted it to and it took seconds to do. And it didn’t take much either. The bottle says it contains 40 spray applications and it comes in medium brown, which is used for medium brown to dark blonde hair and black, which covers black to medium brown. It smelled just a bit when first applied but the odor quickly went away. Now it doesn’t take the place of a salon job but hey, for a 5-second fix that cost about 20 cents….I’m a fan.
Ok, maybe I was just traumatized from seeing how bad my roots looked on video but as I looked at the fabulous results, I had an image of me (in a Scarlett O’Hara moment from Gone With The Wind for those of you who are younger), clutching my spray bottle and exclaiming, “As God is my witness, I will never have gray roots again!”
It worked that good.
Kelly says

Tammy says
Kelly…not in this brand. I looked at the store and double-checked on the website and they don’t have it. Anyone know of another brand that has color for redheads?
