Need to mop up a mess, clean a window or get rid of tarnish but you’ve run out of your favorite cleaner? No need to rush to the store but rather, look in your pantry. For years now I have used products like white vinegar, coarse salt, and baking soda for all my cleaning needs and I know that I save hundreds of dollars every year. Besides saving money, I’m keeping the house a bit more “green,” with these natural, non-toxic ingredients.
I’ve done dozens of posts on using natural products in your beauty or cleaning regimen and here’s a few more ways you can get your house sparking clean, (easily and cheaply,) by using products in your pantry.
I tried out the aluminum foil tip on getting rid of tarnish without having to use a lot of elbow grease and I was amazed at how well this worked!
ALUMINUM FOIL –
If your silver has a tarnish build-up on it, you can clean it in minutes with this super easy and cheap method. I couldn’t believe how well this worked! Line a glass dish or pan large enough to hold the silver you’re cleaning with aluminum foil. Sprinkle 1/2 cup to 1 cup (depending on how deep the tarnish is,) baking soda over the silver. Add 1 cup boiling water. Let sit for a couple of minutes, pull pieces out with tongs and wipe down. I swear, my silver needed no rubbing or scrubbing, the tarnish just melted off.
Within seconds I could see the tarnish coming off…
One of my favorite ways to use baking soda…
BAKING SODA –
Baking soda does a lot more than just keep odors out of your refrigerator. I’ve been using it for years because it’s cheap, nontoxic, and can clean and freshen the whole house. And its gritty texture cleans without scratching. You can spoon some dry baking soda on a clean, damp sponge and use like a scouring powder or dampen the surface and sprinkle a bit of baking soda on it.
