It’s no secret I love animals and have had pets my entire life. I can’t imagine not having a pet as part of our family.
Several years ago my husband and I lost 3 cats within a year due to old age (they were all 16-17 years old.) As an adult, it was very hard on me. When my son was 15 we had to put his pet dog Missy down because she was old and sick and even though he was older, it was still difficult. Especially since we had Missy since he was 2 and she was a huge part of our life.
Coping with the death of a pet can be difficult, especially for younger children. Here’s a great article on how to help your child (or any child you have contact with) deal with the death of a beloved family pet. It’s not easy but these tips can help you better help a child. Thanks Kevin (from Backupcare.org) for this article on a difficult subject.
