I had just wrapped my mind around the fact that it was September and now it’s hitting me that the month is almost over! I swear it seems like this year has flown by faster than any year I can remember! Anyway, that brings me to my favorite dollar store finds this month. I shop at The Dollar Tree but even if you don’t have that particular store in your area, these are basic items you can find at any $1 store.
I have lived in our house for five years and had yet to find a soap dispenser I liked for our master bathroom. Well, I did find one but it was $30 and I just couldn’t bring myself to pay that…for a soap dispenser. As I was walking up and down the aisles, I saw this and thought it was perfect. It’s simple and neutral, which is what I wanted, and since it was just a buck, I knew I couldn’t go wrong. And if some day I do find something I like better, this will fit in any of our other bathrooms or even my kitchen. Which now that I think about it, I actually need about four more of these! This particular piece also came in blue and green. And now I can get any colored “scented” hand soap I like without worrying if the color matches the bathroom.
All of the stores don’t have the same books at the same time but I can usually find at least one that I haven’t read before even though it might have come out a couple of years ago. Books are one thing I always check out first because I love paying just a dollar (for a hard back)….last week I was at a garage sale and the person wanted $5.00 for hers, AND they were eight to ten years old-way too much! Kate Jacobs wrote both of these books and if you ever read her first bestselling book, “The Friday Night Knitting Club”, you know how great of an author she is. If you haven’t read her books, they are deeply moving portraits of female friendship which will make you cry one moment and then laugh out loud the next. One of these books, “Knit Two” had a Wal-Mart price sticker on it, marked $17.34 and the other one “Comfort Food” had a price sticker of $14.29.
I know, they’re just hair elastic bands but hey, you can buy them for $1.00 or go somewhere else and pay $3.00 for the same thing. I like these because the colors will all go perfectly with my fall/winter outfits and you get 36 bands. I don’t know how I lose mine but I do. And I like these because they are thin but sturdy and don’t pull on my hair.
This might be why I can never find my rubber band when I need one. Our cats all think they are toys! Fergie is a bit of a ham and very curious so she had to check them out. Either she’s about to let the others know there’s a “fresh supply” or she’s wishing she had longer hair!
I just bought coffee filters the other day at the grocery store and thought to myself, “I remember when I could pick these up for $1.00”. Well, you can! We do usually buy ours at one of the big warehouse stores but I won’t make a trip there just to buy filters and sometimes I run out before we need to go. I thought a bag of 15o filters for $1.00 and the convenience of our particular store location was a great bargain.
Maybe not a “wow” item but I love these microfiber dusters. This time of year we have a tendency to keep our windows open more and it seems like every bit of dust possible blows in to each room. A lot of times I’ll go in to a room and see dust and think, “I need to dust that” but then, I’ll have to go get the duster and by the time I do, I have forgotten what I was doing! When I saw these I bought three and now we have them on each level of the house so I don’t have to go hunt for one. And these are just as good as the ones I buy at the discount stores…. And you can take it apart and throw it in the washer.
Our grandson loves bandages but even at the discount stores, the “character” ones are expensive. I saw this box of Marvel Heroes and knew he’d love them….even when he doesn’t need one!
I just wrote a post last week on things you can do with sandpaper, besides just sanding wood. This package contains 12 pieces, which includes coarse, medium, fine and extra-fine grains. For all the projects and other uses I might have, this pack will last me a year.
While I was shopping I found some great Halloween deals (love Halloween), so I’ll share those next week.
