My least favorite item to shop for is a bra. I will put off buying a new one until I have literally worn the life out of mine, with the straps stretched out, offering no support, and certainly not looking as nice as what I’m wearing on the outside. Several years ago I decided to have a bra fitting since quite a few of mine didn’t seem to be doing their job and surprise, surprise, it ended up being a totally different size. I bought a few and then came home and put every single bra in my Goodwill donation bag that wasn’t that exact size. Regardless of what type of bra it was…just going off the number on the tag.
You know what? That was totally the wrong thing to do. Yes, I admit I didn’t think that move through. Because later that week when I put on a T-shirt with one of the new bras I bought specifically to wear under T’s, it didn’t fit right. It didn’t nothing for my boobs and accentuated my back fat. What? I had actually donated a favorite bra I wore under T’s because it wasn’t the same size as I was measured, thinking the new one would work even better.
I went shopping for new bras again, this time at a department store that didn’t have someone specifically designated to be waiting on me outside the dressing room. I chose lots of different styles, again, all in the same size I had just been measured at, and tried them all on. And about 75% of them didn’t even fit. The straps were either too long or tight, the cups drooped or weren’t big enough. I was so frustrated and feeling quite pissy by the time I was finished, I chose one that would work even though I didn’t love it.
Not the biggest challenge or problem in my life I know but when your undergarments don’t fit properly, your outerwear just isn’t going to look as great as it would and could. And who wants to be fidgeting or feeling uncomfortable all day in a bra that just doesn’t fit your frame? Which is why I guess I wear my bras till they fall apart…because I hate shopping for them!
Being in a position where it’s now time where I HAVE to buy a new one I decided to do a bit of research before hitting the stores. And I came across one of the best sites for anything and everything I needed to know about bras. Lingerie blogger Kim Caldwell from Hurray Kimmay, is an expert at bra fittings and with great pictures and easy to understand instructions on her site. What caught my attention especially was an article where she wears nine perfect-fitting bras on the same day, all in different sizes. Nine totally different sized bras ranging from a 34C to a 30DDD. And they ALL fit?
This article helped me tremendously and now knowing what I know, the next bra trip should be a bit more relaxed where I’ll find the perfect bras for my personal needs and based on my actual wardrobe requirements.
