Shop Small Business Saturday is on November 26th this year and a perfect time to support your local small businesses, which helps support your entire community. And with the holidays right around the corner, it’s a perfect time to pick up unique items you won’t find at the big chain stores. The nationwide movement, created by American Express, has been going strong since 2010. As I like to do, featuring local small businesses around this time of year, giving you a quick peek to what you can look forward to inside, here’s another great one. And remember, even if you’re not in the Colorado Springs area, there are probably some great small businesses in your own area, with fun and unique items. Take the day to check some out.
2UNIQUE SHOPPE GIRLS
Thanks to my friend Ashley, I discovered a truly unique and fabulous shop, and now I want to share just a bit about why I think you’re going to love this place. Let’s just say, I think you’ll return again and again…it’s that great.
2Unique Shoppe Girls, located at 104 East Cheyenne Road, here in Colorado Springs is a unique vendor market featuring everything from shabby chick to antique.
The store, owned by Sandra and Angela, has over 40 vendors which makes shopping there so much fun…lots of variety from booth to booth. You can literally spend hours in this place and not see everything.
My eyes immediately lit on this pillow on my last visit and I thought “Well hello to you too.” There are some of the most fun, beautiful, and decorative pillows throughout the store, all reasonably priced. Perfect gifts for someone or yourself. I actually bought one for someone gorgeous in my life.
One of the reasons I think this is a fabulous place to do some holiday shopping is because you can find something for everyone, no matter their tastes. I found myself walking from booth to booth and immediately thinking, this would be perfect for so and so.
You can pick up the Scrabble racks and tiles individually and create your own unique piece.
Co-owner Sandra, who I had the pleasure meeting, is from Germany and has been in the U.S. for more than 20 years. She brings her ideas and her talent to decorate, build, and envision to light…which is very evident in the way she decorates the store. She has talent that ranges from putting together a wreath or floral display to adding a second floor apartment over a garage. Talent and grit! Sandra’s married and has 2 children, along with a whole slew of animals.
Ashley and I shop a lot together, which is how I discover all these amazing small businesses. Taking a break in an area I could spend hours in, Ashley pretends to read a book…I’m betting it’s upside down!
Another something I think would make for a perfect gift because there is such a variety. Fun pendulum clocks at good prices.
Just an example of what you might find…
Co-owner Angela is originally from New York and has lived in the Springs since the late 80’s. Angela is partnered with 4 adult children, 2 grandchildren, and says “only” 3 dogs and 1 cat…which makes me wonder just how many animals are in that slew Sandra has! (Ha!) Occasionally she’ll have the pups with her in the store but since Angela works full-time at the Air Force Academy, there aren’t a lot of Angela, much less pup, “sightings.”
I enjoyed walking around and seeing how items were displayed, giving me tons of great ideas for my own home.
Really pretty scarves, always in fashion, for less than $10…
Even though Angela and Sandra are both “relatively young” (their words, not mine!) they bring with them over 40 years combined experience to upcycling, renovating, rebuilding, and decorating in a vendor type atmosphere. They have been business partners for more than 9 years and sill laugh with (and at!) each other every day. When they were scouting a vendor market, there was no doubt in their minds that this was the place and market that they wanted to be in. And with Angela living in Monument and Sandra near Pueblo, their location on Cheyenne Road was the perfect location. (Lucky for me I live nearby!) Once their decision was made, all they had to do was tell a few friends/vendors what they were about to do and the store was full before opening day. They truly have a good reputation in the community, which helped bring the vendors flocking, and continues to keep their customers coming back.
I absolutely loved this pet bed! I bet there are quite a few cats or dogs out there who wouldn’t mind finding this under the tree come Christmas morning.
Again, so much to choose from!
Layaway is offered…
And because there are different vendors, you can usually find at least one sale going on in a booth.
Deep in thought as she goes through her mental shopping list…
It’s important to both Sandra and Angela that their customers know how important they are. They feel that if the customer takes the time to come and visit, the least they (and the entire staff) can do is to treat them with respect and help them find what that customer is looking for. And if you, the customer want to come in and just browse, that’s fine with them too. You will always be offered a cup of coffee and on most days, a small sweet to go with it. All of the folks you’ll see walking around the store are actually vendors that are there to help make sure you have what you need.
I absolutely fell in love with both the chair and pillow!
And how cool is this display?
Here’s Ruby, along with her human Sandra, ready to help greet customers…and make sure the customers aren’t hiding any Scooby snacks!
For a truly unique shopping experience in a warm and inviting atmosphere, not to mention all the eclectic choices in merchandise, stop in and visit everyone at 2Unique Shoppe Girls. With over 40 vendors, you’re sure to find that special gift for someone or something special for yourself.
Sandra and Angela wanted to give a big shout out to Monika, Lonnie, Denise, Jan, Barb, Ashleigh, Laurie, and all of their exceptional vendors who make the day-to-day business fun and exciting.
