Makeup can be expensive and a lot of times, products don’t quite live up to their claims. One of my favorite sites to go to for makeup reviews is Refinery29, which to me, gives fair reviews, and are committed to reporting on the best of the best. There are a lot of great products out there but there are also a lot of inferior ones that simply don’t work.
For this particular article, which features 61 drugstore makeup products for under $20, they went to celebrity makeup artists to find out what they love. And they came up with a list the pros swear by and can be found at your local drugstore, stores like Target or Walmart, on Amazon, etc.
I tried three products from their list this past week and I really, really was happy with the results. (I bought all 3 at Target.)
The Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs Leg Makeup (about $12) really made my legs look nice. It covers freckles, veins, and imperfections with a sexy, silky smooth skin finish. It’s water-resistant and washes off with soap, water, and a washcloth. The light-weight formula doesn’t rub off on your clothes and dries quickly. (And if you mess it up or get uneven results for some reason, it’s easier to fix than a self-tanner mistake.)
The Maybelline Master Prime by Face Studio, Blur + Illuminate ($8.00) gave me immediate results that I loved! It’s a primer that you can use alone or under makeup (I used it under my makeup,) that smooths skin surface and visually blurs tone imperfections. I found that my concealer and foundation glided on more easily with the primer and didn’t settle in those “smile” lines. And the lightweight, non-oily formula doesn’t clog pores. It did make my face brighter too. Also contains Broad Spectrum SPF 30.
The third new product from this list I tried was the Maybelline Color Tattoo Metal 24 Hour Eyeshadow (about $6.00,) in “Inked in Pink” color. And I loved it! It’s creamy, didn’t fade, and was crease-resistant. It literally lasted all day and looked as good that evening as it did that morning. I thought it looked so pretty on my eyes, I tried it on my cheeks and lips for a fresh, natural summer look and it totally worked. This would be a great travel item too. (Of course it was a color that would look good on your cheeks and lips, not like a green or blue or brown shade!)
And an item on the list that is something I have already tried and obviously use…
This Sonia Kashuk Eye Couture Eye Palette in “Eye on Neutral Matte” ($19.99,) is my new favorite go-to eyeshadow. It comes with 12 colors that are easy to blend with great pigment. It goes on smoothly and lasts all day. I chose and use the matte formula but the colors also come in a shimmer finish if you want. Since I bought this about 5 weeks ago, it is what I use the most. I tend to have dry skin and my eyelids will occasionally get really dry and scaly (yuck!) but this shadow swept on so easily and looked great. I only wish each shade was also sold separately.
