I have a lot of clothes as I’ve mentioned before but the majority of them come from thrift/consignment stores so I don’t spend a lot of money on them. In fact, if I broke down where I purchase my clothes I’d say it would look something like this…
50% comes from Goodwill
20% comes from Ashley’s Attic
15% comes from clearance sales at retail stores
13% comes from retail stores that I pay the full price for
2% comes from garage sales or other thrift stores
So…when I bought a pair of jeans at the Buckle store a couple of years ago and paid $65, I had quite a bit of buyer’s remorse. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the jeans but I thought I had spent too much money. (Because I’m just used to those Goodwill prices!) Anyway, for the first couple of months I didn’t wear them that much because I didn’t want to wear out those “good” jeans. But every single time I put them on, I’d think, these are the most comfortable jeans ever…and I thought they made me look good. After another couple of months I realized they were the only jeans I wanted to wear and was wearing them all the time.
The jeans are “Flying Monkey” which are sold at Buckle. http://www.buckle.com/
My husband pokes fun at me occasionally for how cheap I can be when it comes to certain things, like a pair of jeans. In all honesty, pretty much everyone I know thought $65 was a pretty inexpensive price to pay for a good pair of jeans. I thought they were crazy at the time, especially after I found out that even my friends on the tightest of budgets would shell out $100 for a pair.
Two years later they are still the ones I wear the most often because of how comfortable and versatile they are. I wear them all year-long with tanks, sweaters, boots and sandals. They’re perfect for casual days, dressier occasions, date night, and everything in between. And when I mix them with my bargain buys, I feel even better…ha!
Cuffed legs, Target sandals, and a fun IZOD top from Goodwill $3.99.
With these fabulous Madeline Stuart Mary Jane Pumps (Goodwill $8.99) I think my legs look longer, especially with the darker wash on the jeans. (Preview 100% wool sweater $5.99, both bracelets $3.99 – from Goodwill.)
When buying jeans I prefer plain pockets, which I personally feel gives me more options and versatility with my outfits.
The jeans are a mix of cotton, rayon, polyester and spandex and made in the U.S.A. There’s just enough spandex to hold things in for me without being uncomfortable or tight feeling. They seem to magically expand when I need them to but they’re never baggy or get droopy, especially in the butt area.
Pure comfort…
A hat and animal print…two of my favorite things! Hat from Ashley’s Attic, White House Black Market jacket (on sale for 60% off when purchased,) Target pumps and Goodwill bracelet. Yep, that’s pretty much where all my clothes come from!

Before I bought these jeans I mostly wore dresses because I found them more comfortable. But that has changed! I was getting so much use out of my “splurge” jeans, I told my husband I wanted another pair as my Christmas present this past year. (He bought me 2 pairs, among other things.) The first pair of jeans have held up really well, especially after almost constant use for a couple of years.*
The front pair are the older jeans…
I always feel a bit more “confident” in this particular outfit…classic, timeless, comfortable and stylish. Target clearance blazer $6.99, white Express blouse $49 (not on sale but my husband bought for me so it wasn’t my splurge), black boots from Ashley’s Attic (on sale for $10), animal print purse $3.99 and necklace $4.99, both from Goodwill.
Oh loving the warm, sunny, calm spring day here in Colorado Springs…ha! At least the snow has melted. AB Studio top $3.99 and bag $4.99 both from Goodwill, hat $1.00 from Dollar Tree, and MIA wedges.
I’m not one who usually wears jeans out on a date but that has also changed. I feel sexy without showing too much skin and I’m actually comfortable.

I haven’t washed my jeans in almost a year, instead putting them in the freezer, which will kill some bacteria. If they need a bit of “freshening,” I use a little sprinkle of baking soda. LEVI CEO Chip Bergh doesn’t wash his jeans, which is how I heard about this. (I do wash my gardening and work jeans because they get dirty.)

As someone who takes great pleasure out of getting a bargain or really great deal, whether buying used or new, I now think of these jeans as a really great deal instead of a splurge. If I based how much I paid for them against how much I wear them, well then, they are a bargain!
Versatile, flattering, comfortable…worth every penny!
What do you think…is there something you “splurge” on that you think is worth every penny?
