My friend Cindy, who is also a bargain loving woman who likes to shop at thrift stores like me, recently bought a Mouse Trap game at arc Thrift Stores for $2.99. But when she got the game home, it was missing a few pieces. Now she could have returned it for store credit but instead, called the phone number on the instructions sheet and ended up getting the pieces mailed to her…all for free!
I think there are probably more than a few of us who have at one time or another, discarded a board game because of missing pieces. Yes, there are some games where you can make your own pieces or substitute pieces from a different game but then there are those, where you really need the actual game pieces like a scrabble tile.
After doing a bit of research, I discovered that besides checking with the various game manufacturers, there are also quite a few sites that sell extra pieces, tiles, cards, etc. Most of the sites sell replacement parts for a reasonable price, or in Cindy’s case, didn’t cost a dime, but do your homework so you don’t pay too much. In a few cases, the pieces cost almost as much as a brand new game.
Steps To Find Game Piece Replacement Parts…
*Call the 1-800 number included on the game directions sheet or box itself to talk to a real live person.
*Check the game manufacturer website. Hasbro, which also owns Milton Bradley and Parker Brothers, sells replacement parts on their site.
*Amazon, eBay and Craigslist are great places to find game pieces. Prices can vary quite a bit, depending on the seller. I saw super cheap prices but also a few that were way overpriced.
*Freecycle.org is another good site to check. Everything on this site is free. You’ll have less of a chance to find a specific piece here since it’s based solely on what other people are giving away but hey, it’s worth a shot and it’s a fun site to look at…cause everything’s free!
A few more helpful sites I found are:

And if you’ve lost the game instructions, you can usually go to the manufacturer site and print them off for free.
Here is the main reason we personally are missing game pieces!
