Well, I can honestly say that this is the first As Seen On TV product I’ve tested out that even though it actually worked, I still wouldn’t buy again. It totally does what it says it will so why did I not like it?
TUFF GLOVE HOT SURFACE PROTECTOR CLAIMS –
The Tuff Glove Hot Surface Protector claims to allow you to handle hot items safely and easily. Withstanding heat up to 500 degrees, it promises to keep your hands safe from burns when grilling, baking, barbecuing, microwaving and cooking on a stove-top. I tried the gloves with glass dishes, metal dishes, and cast iron. I turned the heat up to 500 degrees and also used the broiler for my testing. It was freezing outside so I didn’t try them with any grill cooking.
DIT IT WORK?
For me, the glove absolutely worked. I actually touched the racks in the oven, which I don’t recommend, to see how long it would take before I could feel the heat in an uncomfortable way and it was definitely longer than I expected. Much longer than I would be spending handling any hot dish or pan.
MY “DISLIKES” ABOUT THE GLOVE –
So if it works, why didn’t I like this? Well, for one thing, when you take the gloves out of the box, they are really stinky. Kind of like how a damp, straw beach mat smells. (I did make my husband sniff them and he said he thought they had a bit of a chemical aroma.) After they aired out for a day and then were washed, they still had a bit of that smell but if you’re not sticking your hands right up under your nose, you may not notice it. Or it may not even smell bad to you.
The Tuff Glove can be worn on either hand and claims to have a “comfortable five-finger flexible grip.” And the box says “One size fits most.” Well, I know I’m a petite person but my hands aren’t that much smaller than a lot of my friends. I mean, look at these things…They are huge!
With the gloves being this big, I can’t use them in a safe manner since I can’t use my fingers or any part of my hand that well. And in the product details, I read that the glove is not fire-retardant or flame resistant, which immediately put a picture in my head of my entire hand catching on fire as I turned a skewer on the grill.
I bought my box of 2 gloves at Bed Bath & Beyond for $9.99 but used a 20% off coupon so it was even less. They come in beige, red, and blue. You can also find these at Target, Walmart, Walgreens and other stores.
So, if you have larger hands and don’t mind the smell of damp straw while you cook, you might enjoy these. Otherwise, I’d skip them and buy something else that’s actually flame resistant and fits…and doesn’t have an “odor” about them.

I am looking for a address so I can notify this company. I bought tuff glove at a bed, bath and beyond store in Ohio and had my oven only up to 400 degrees and within 10 seconds of picking up a hot tray, the very hot feeling came through glove. This was false advertising on their part.

Eliot…I would go to the “As Seen On TV” website (asseenontv.come) where you can contact the company. I did read reviews where the customer service could be difficult but I personally haven’t ever contacted them so… And usually Bed Bath & Beyond is pretty good about returns so I would try taking it back for a refund.

Hey. Based on the above review and the fabric of the gloves both doesn’t support the claim in advertising. If the gloves are real then I will give them a try because I also work as a chef so I need them a lot!

Mesha…Some really like them but for me, the sizes run so big, they can be dangerous as I pull things out of the oven. The smell has gone away that I first noticed though and other people in our family do use it.

I got the gloves for a Christmas gift and been using them till today. I will not use them no more cause I picked up a potato I was baking and got burnt. I was looking where I can send them back but can find them. So I am writing this to see if I can get a reply.
My E-mail address is lincichon@gmail.com.
I hope I get some kind of reply from the company.

Linda, I don’t know how quickly they will respond, if they even do. Do you know if they were purchased at a store versus online? I have found that even without a receipt, Bed Bath & Beyond is pretty good about returns if there is something wrong with the product. You could try there?
