The holiday season is here and for a lot of us, that means more parties, get-togethers and special evenings out. Add the cost of “party” attire to gifts, food, and decorations and it can become expensive. My girlfriend Ashley and I decided to spend a morning at Goodwill and see how many outfits we could pull together for any holiday event, from casual to formal, for under $25….and boy did we! Here’s just a few we found….
*Just fyi, not all of these dresses were in Ashley’s size. We used clips to pull the larger clothes tighter and there were a couple of outfits we couldn’t get the zipper up….just to show that no matter what your size, you CAN find something fabulous that fits your budget.
Ashley has been looking for a jumpsuit that fit her for a long time and she was so happy with this “Menu” black one ($4.19) that she bought it. It fit perfectly. We added a purple velvet belt to emphasize her waist ($3.99) with these so in style studded heels ($4.99) for a great look she can wear to any holiday event. The jumpsuit is a “statement” piece itself and paired with the belt, doesn’t need a lot of other accessories. This entire look cost a whopping $13.17.
It’s obviously comfortable and she can move in it!
This black Kathie Lee velvet dress was $7.99. The beautiful detail on the top is decorative enough…again, no need for a necklace (you want to be careful when wearing a necklace that might snag with delicate fabrics). The Charlotte Russe silver shoes ($3.99) look stylish with this dress but could also be worn with the jumpsuit or an evening gown. Total cost for this dress and shoes was $11.98.
We loved this long black “Brilliante by J.A.” dress. The applique overlay adds sparkle and it was in perfect condition…no snags whatsoever! The red “Delicious” shoes add a fun pop of color. The dress was $12.99 and the shoes $5.99, for a total of $18.98.
Perfect for a more formal event (and this cream color will set you apart from all the black dresses), this two-piece Caliendo dress was only $7.50. We paired it with the silver Charlotte Russe shoes we found earlier ($3.99) and found this sequined cream bag for $3.99. The look mixes silvers, golds and creams, which made this gold/silver/pearl bangle bracelet we found ($3.99) a perfect accessory…. $19.47 for everything.
Bold and beautiful! Our favorite thing about this Red Perceptions dress, besides the fact the color is beautiful on her, is how versatile it could be. We added jeweled Adrienne Vittadini flats and came up with a casual look that is still dressy. You could add a pair of heels to amp it up a bit or you could wear it with tights and boots for a completely different look. Throw a sweater or jacket over it and you have yet another outfit. A pair of big hoop earrings or small studs would be all the jewelry you need with a pattern this large. AND because the pattern is only on half the dress, petite or larger women could equally pull off this look. The dress was $5.99 and the flats $3.99…total $9.98 for a fabulous and versatile outfit!
Ashley said this deep plum Hillard & Hanson dress ($7.99) was super comfortable and the material looks and feels luxurious. Animal print is always in and we added it for a fun, fresh feel. You could add any color belt you wanted because the purple is so deep it almost looks black and therefore makes it more neutral in color. Or wear it without a belt. The belt was $2.99, the fabulous pearl necklace with the rhinestone clasp was $5.99 and the shoes are the jeweled Adrienne Vittadini flats we used earlier for $3.99 which added up to $20.96 for the entire ensemble.
Another velvet dress we fell in love with. This Coldwater Creek dress was $7.99, and again, Ashley said it was super comfortable. (Love dressy but comfy clothes!) We turned the clasp on the pearl necklace we had found ($5.99) around to the back and it looks totally different. The snake-skin Bandolino heels are only $3.99. With the bracelet, $3.99, this outfit came in at $21.96
Don’t know if she’s just loosening up for more fittings or if she’s thinking of running for office!
Playful, stylish, and all of these pieces could be worn with other items in your closet for a variety of different looks. The cropped black velvet jacket is actually part of a dress that Ashley later tries on so it’s a “double-duty” piece. The animal print J.W. skirt is $3.99 and the jacket (again, it comes with a dress) is $12.99. The sequins Express tank is $2.99 and these fabulous Steve Madden shoes only $4.99. This outfit came in at $24.96….and you get a another dress with it!
This is the dress that goes with the cropped jacket Ashley has on in the previous picture. These black Etienne Aigner shoes are only $3.99 and in perfect condition. And for some added color, we found this little red bag for only $3.99 for a total cost of $20.97. I think this has a very flirty but feminine feel to it.
This black strapless Mori Lee dress ($12.99) is the perfect LBD….timeless and always in style. I think Ashley looks elegant, beautiful and ready to attend any holiday event….or night out with her husband for dinner or cocktails.
Well, it was a fun (and long) morning spent at Goodwill but in 3 hours time we were able to find 10 different outfits that were all fabulous and inexpensive….3 hours sounds like a long time but I was also taking hundreds of pictures.
As always, the staff were helpful and extremely nice (we were at the Kelly Johnson Blvd location). We go through a lot of clothes (which makes for a lot of hanging back up on the racks for them) and “hog up” a dressing room for a lengthy time but they never make it feel like we’re causing them extra work or are in the way!
Don’t know if Ashley was about to faint from all the exertion or if she just couldn’t believe all the great deals we found!
