I finally made it to the new Discover Goodwill in Monument (Colorado) that opened earlier this year in January and wow was I impressed! My friend Ashley and her son Mason, who at a year old is very familiar with Goodwill shopping, accompanied me and before you knew it, a couple of hours had passed and we had (as usual) snagged quite a few bargains.
The store is so spacious (23,522 square-feet) and well laid out, it was actually relaxing to stroll through the aisles. The lighting and music added to that feeling, which is probably why the time just slipped by.
One of the first things you notice when you walk in the store is a section called “Deja Blu” which has a boutique feel and features fashion-forward clothing, shoes, and accessories. It’s fabulous!
They should have a sign posted as you enter Deja Blu that says, “Enter With Caution,” because you will want everything in your size! I had to tear myself away to explore the rest of the store.
Scarves are an easy way to accessorize any outfit but they can be expensive. These scarves are in perfect condition and what a selection they have…just as good as you’d find at the mall but at a fraction of the cost. The average price here is about $3.99.
For 18 years Discover Goodwill had dedicated service in the Tri-Lakes area via an attended donation center. With the addition of this new location which not only offers great bargains in the retail section and an easy donation drive-thru, they have developed a Community Programs Center offering career development services, workforce experience, senior services, and Low Income Energy Assistance support. (*More information about these services to follow.)
If you have a man in your life who wears ties, there is a huge selection that includes brands like Tommy Hilfiger, Michael Kors, and Calvin Klein. Ties, that brand new, would cost $40 to $60 but can be picked up here for $3 to $5. In great condition I might add. I have bought tons of ties for my husband at Discover Goodwill and he always gets compliments on them.
Cute displays throughout the store…
Besides the awesome deals on everything fashion related for the entire family, you’ll find great bargains on brand-name merchandise like housewares, furniture, appliances, sporting goods, collectibles, and much more. You’ll find things you didn’t even know you “needed.”
** Nearly 90% of all proceeds from donations and sales at the Monument Retail Center will be reinvested in community-based programs and services supporting individuals with disadvantages.
If you have children, Discover Goodwill is the perfect place to pick up clothes and shoes for them. I have seen some of the cutest toddler outfits for 99 cents to $1.99. Honestly, most of my friends and family pick up the majority of clothes for their kids here.
And don’t even get me started on the jewelry…this is the section Ashley and I head to first usually. Some of my coolest necklaces and bracelets came from Goodwill.
The Monument location not only has a huge selection of gently worn shoes, but they also offer great bargains on new shoes.
Getting married or need to find a gift for the bride? Yes, Discover Goodwill even has items for that.
And don’t forget to check out the colors of the day for additional savings…it’s the first thing I look at when I enter the store. I mean an additional 30 or 50% off makes a huge difference.
**Over the past year, Discover Goodwill has improved the lives of over 65,000 individuals with disadvantages and secured gainful employment for more than 7,400 job seekers.
I personally am an avid reader and would go broke if I paid the full price for the amount of books I buy and read. I can buy one new paperback for $10 or buy 10 used books for $10. And they have great selections from fiction, to cookbooks, educational materials, books for kids of all ages, and more.
While you’re browsing, enjoy the complimentary in-store coffee bar which serves Discover Goodwill’s unique blend. (You can also buy bags of their coffee to enjoy at home.)
I keep a box in the house that I continuously add to with items we no longer use or want. Once it’s full, I donate it to Discover Goodwill which is so easy. The Monument location offers a convenient, two-lane, donation drive-thru with really friendly staff who will unload your vehicle (you don’t even have to get out of the car,) give you a donors tax receipt, and offer you a free beverage. They even have treats for the tots and canine companions in the car. (My cats were disappointed to hear they don’t offer catnip but then again, they would never want to go on errands with me in the car!)
I thought this was a cool idea, which helps keep the kids entertained while you shop. Of course you don’t want to leave young children unattended, which you wouldn’t do at any store.
And then they display all the great art…
And they offer lots of new items from tights and socks, to pet supplies and tools, to even painting supplies…all at great prices.

Well, it was a fun day. Ashley and I got some great deals and Mason was a real trooper. I think Mason thinks of Discover Goodwill as a second home…ha! Bet he grows up to be quite a savvy bargain shopper.
