I am a huge fan of Discover Goodwill, as most of you know, and I love sharing and showing how you can find stylish and affordable outfits there. Shopping thrift can be overwhelming to some, especially if it’s your first time, since there’s so much merchandise to sift through. And if you’re shopping with your kids, well, we all know that can be a challenge at times.
*The Discover Goodwill locations I’ve been shopping at lately have made it even easier to shop now with racks and rounders sized, with easy to read signs, and a lot of the racks are color-coordinated.
The average family will spend $600 per child for back-to-school items including clothes, supplies, electronics, etc. That’s a lot of money, especially if you have more than one child.
Let me help you save some money, perhaps make finding something fabulous your child can wear to school easier, and have a bit of fun in the process. Starting today, enter our newest Discover Goodwill makeover contest by simply leaving a comment as to why you’d like to win. The winner will receive a “new” outfit, up to $25 worth. To enter, your child must be of school age, ranging from kindergarten to high school, and be able to meet me at a local Discover Goodwill (Colorado Springs, Woodland Park, Pueblo, or Fountain locations.) By entering the contest, you give us permission to share pictures of your child and the clothes we found.
An interesting thing I have noticed when shopping at Goodwill is that the customers seem like they are getting younger (or maybe I’m just getting older!) There’s not the “stigma” of wearing used clothing there once was, especially as more and more of us are becoming aware of the importance of recycling and helping keep the landfills from overflowing. In a USA Today article, Irma Zandl, of the consumer-tracking firm Zandl Group, said that second hand finds suit young consumers who want to stand out and make a statement. “People today take pride in being individual and unique, in setting trends versus following them, and with so much sameness at malls throughout the country, one way to achieve this kind of originality is by buying retro and vintage items that are no longer in production.”
Saving money, looking fabulous, helping our planet, and helping those in our communities…makes shopping at Discover Goodwill a huge win/win in my opinion.
Again, the contest starts today (Thursday, August 7th and runs through Sunday, August 10th.) Just leave a comment and we’ll randomly choose a winner. We’ll announce the winner on Monday, August 11th.
Good luck!
