The term “Mediterranean Diet” has been on the news a lot lately, with new results showing the health benefits of this healthy lifestyle of eating, which includes warding off heart attacks and strokes. And it just so happens to tie in with our cooking video we released earlier today, Mediterranean Beans With Greens & Grains)…which by the way, is delicious.
Nuts, eggs, chocolate (with more than 50% cocoa)…unlimited consumption of fish, seafood, whole grains and low-fat cheese. Olive oil, tomatoes, garlic and wine; sounds good and easy to do. If you’re not sure exactly what the buzz is all about, the New York Times has this great article, which includes another link to the study results….very interesting. I will say, when I’ve heard the news reports on this diet, I’ve only heard them talk about which foods TO eat. If you read the reports though, they mention the fact that you should ALSO avoid or limit quantities of cream, butter, lunch meats, French fries, chips, sugared sodas and other drinks with sugar added, pastries and baked goods. If you limit or avoid those food items, you’re automatically going to be healthier…just saying.
We personally use most of the ingredients in this Mediterranean eating plan but now that I know how healthy and beneficial these ingredients are, well, I’m going to use them even more! And make sure to check out our vegan Mediterranean Recipe from earlier.
