Lots of great sales going on today! But before you head out to the stores, make a game-plan so you don’t get home and think, “Why did I buy that?” or get caught up in the sales and actually spend more on something that will actually cost less later in the year.
Great Deals
This is the time of year I buy cold weather basics for myself and as gifts for next winter. Coats, scarves, gloves and hats can be found on sale for up to 70% off, and some stores offer even deeper discounts. If you have kids (or grandkids) that are still growing, pick up items in a size or two bigger. Some stores are offering sales on their already clearance items, which can add up to 75 or 80% off. So you could find a fabulous coat that’s normally $100 and pick it up for $25 or less. I personally will be buying all our adult kids (and their partners) sweaters, coats, etc., wrap them up and be done with some of my Christmas shopping. Pass on trendy items though (unless you just love it and have to have it for this season), because chances are it won’t be in style next year and will already look dated. *You’ll also see new seasonal and spring clothing on sale BUT, according to offers.com vice president, Howard Schaffer, even though these are on sale, they will actually be at the highest prices of the year so skip buying those now.
Cookware and small appliances are other items you’ll find at super-low prices. If you have kids going off to college next year or moving out, this would be a good time to buy coffee pots, crock pots, toasters, etc., they’ll need.
“Deals” to Avoid
A couple of other things you might see on sale that WON’T be a good deal are grills and patio furniture. These items will go down in price later this year and just like the spring clothing, will actually be more expensive if purchased now.
Plan Ahead to Avoid Buyers Remorse
And if you’re like me, who occasionally suffers from that shopping high and goes overboard, make a list of what you’re specifically looking for. If you’re going gift shopping, have sizes and colors written down. Take stock of your closet before you go. And remember, even if something’s a great deal, if you’re not going to use it, you’re losing money.
Doing a bit of legwork on the computer will pay off and save you time…just type in your favorite stores and see who has the best deals before you leave the house.
