I admit, when my son was younger, I did occasionally spank him. Not beat him, not spank him with a belt or paddle, not use enough force to leave marks or actually hurt him, but I did spank.
And I also admit, when I did spank him, it was out of anger. It was something, even something little, that would put me over the top of my mommy patience, and he’d get a swat or two on the butt, with my hand.
He’s 24 now so spanking is not an issue I have to think about that personally pertains to me.
If I could go back in time, would I still spank him? I don’t know. I like to think that I wouldn’t but I can’t honestly say I’m 100% sure I wouldn’t. I also spanked him when I was scared, like when he let go of my hand and ran across the street or when he hid under a clothing rack at the mall and I couldn’t find him. There’s been several articles in the news lately about spanking at home and in schools and here’s an insightful article on 10 reasons you shouldn’t spank. (Thanks Molly from liveinnanny.com).
Whether you agree or disagree, whether you spank or don’t spank…if you have children, I think you’ll find this article interesting and something to think about.
