I think napkin rings just add an extra touch to any holiday (or everyday) table. It’s been a long time since I’ve bought any new ones though because they can be expensive. Now I either buy them at garage sales, thrift stores or make my own. Here’s some quick, easy and very inexpensive ideas…from spooky to festive…..and most of these can also be sent home with your guests or used in other ways around the house. Love double-duty items!
This orange glitter pumpkin ornament is perfect as a napkin ring and since it already has a ribbon on it, you just slip it over the napkin. Fast and festive! And your guest can take it home, if you want. ThisĀ is on sale at Hobby Lobby for $1.19. The green charger plate in this picture was 10 cents at Wal-Mart after Christmas last year.
Another idea for this pumpkin ornament….dress up a bottle of wine you might take to a friend’s house….adds a holiday touch and there’s no need to put it in a wine bag.
If you have children at the table, slip their napkin in a pair of funny dropping glasses. They’ll think it’s funny and they have something to keep them occupied after dinner. These were $1.00 at the Dollar Tree.
I have been using floral picks as napkin rings for a long time. I’m always getting a few when they go on clearance after the holidays. They have a wire end that’s easy and fast to wrap around a napkin. This is on sale right now at Hobby Lobby for 88 cents. The gold charger plate is $1.99 (also at Hobby Lobby.)
You can also wrap these holiday picks around the stem of a wine glass.
Or prop them next to a candle. And your guests can take these home too.
Another very easy (and cheap) way to dress up a napkin….simply tie a decorative ribbon around it.
I love these glass plates because I can decorate them so easily with seasonal objects. And you can always find ribbon that reflects the season or holiday you’re celebrating. This spool of ribbon is 60 cents (on sale) at Hobby Lobby (for 4 feet of ribbon).
This orange leaf (on a wire pick) came in a package of 10 for $1.00 at the Dollar Tree….you could also use these as place settings at a seated dinner….just write the person’s name on it with a Sharpie and they’ll know where you want them to sit.
Here’s another spooky napkin ring idea. This skeleton garland was $1.00 at the Dollar Tree.
I simply cut them apart (they are on twine) and made four. The kids will love these and again, have something to play with later.
And here’s two totally free ways to add a decorative touch to napkins.
A few blades of decorative grass….
Or….cut an empty paper towel roll into rings. Glue some pretty branches or leaves and you have a free (and recycled) napkin ring to fit any season or holiday. Makes a fun project for children too.
