It’s 4:30 in the morning. My makeup is done, I’m dressed, and hopefully I’ve remembered to comb my hair. The kitchen smells fabulous as food bakes in the oven or simmers on the stove. And I’ve been up since about 1, finishing up any chopping, mixing or measuring. Why? Because we’re filming live as we do a couple of times a month with Craig Coffey on FOX 21 News for the FOXY MOMS segment…in my kitchen.
Lots of lights…which can get really warm. So if my normally very dry skin looks “dewy” it’s actually sweat! Especially on the days both ovens are going.
It’s a bit weird (if you don’t do this for a living) to be filming live and looking at the camera, while there’s a laptop screen that’s showing the anchors, Kimberly Price and Justin Chamber, talking back to us.
When I filmed our very first 719Woman cooking video, I drank a glass of wine while cooking, which became a part of our weekly video. I end with a “cheers and we’ll see you next week.” Because we’re filming so early in the morning when doing Foxy Moms, I decided mimosas were more “appropriate.”
Last minute prep…double-checking notes and recipes so when we’re live, I kind of know what I’m going to say. Of course, filming with Craig, well, you just never know what he’s going to ask while we’re live on air! One time he asked me which fruit did I consider the sexiest? With one second to answer, “pear” popped out of my mouth.
Because we have a very short time frame to cook (teases and a couple 2 to 3 minute segments each hour), I cook two of most things so we have a finished product to show. Everything has to be measured out ahead of time and all the pots and pans, along with utensils have to be out too. Lots of planning because you can’t stop when you’re live to hunt for a spoon.
Filming a “tease” (which always includes a sip!)
In between the live segments there’s a lot of work being done…
So now I know what Craig’s doing behind my back…it’s hard to not laugh the entire time because he’s so darn funny.
See what I mean?
Good food, mimosas, and Craig…helps make getting up so early easier and fun.
After 3 hours, we’re done. The guys pack up, I put the food away and then it’s time for a nap!
Always a blast with Craig…
Cheers!
