The other day I was out shopping and saw homemade goat soap. It smelled fabulous but I didn’t buy any and quite frankly, didn’t even know if there were any benefits of goat soap, except for the fact that it was homemade and probably didn’t contain some of the harsh ingredients so many soaps have in them. But they did pique my interest, so of course I had to do some research…
Worldwide, goat milk is the most widely type of milk people drink, from 65 to 75% of the world making it their milk of choice. I did not know that. Some health benefits of goat milk include it being less allergenic, naturally homogenized, easier to digest and slightly less lactose.
- Here’s a great article from Dr. Sears and parenting.com on the benefits of drinking goat milk….
- Another informative (and easy to read) article on goat milk and health benefits is from the Global Healing Center…
So what could goat soap do for my skin? I found out goat milk has over 50 nutrients, minerals, acids and enzymes that help nourish and revitalize your skin. And it’s excellent for those who have sensitive skin, acne, psoriasis, eczema, and many other skin problems.
Goat Milk Soaps contain…
- Alpha Hydroxy Acids – Such as lactic acid, which helps exfoliate dead skin cells, leaving new cells on the surface of your skin that are smoother and younger looking.
- Vitamins – Especially high in Vitamin A, which helps repair damaged skin tissue and maintains healthy skin.
- Cream – The cream in goat milk helps boost the moisturizing quality of goat milk soaps, which doesn’t dry out your skin.
- Minerals – Minerals like selenium, which is believed by some scientists to be an important role in preventing skin cancer. This can help prevent damage to your skin from excessive time in the sun.
The vitamins in goat milk also help reduce the redness of acne and relieves the itchiness of dry skin and other skin problems. Goat milk soap also has a PH similar to our human skin and will help your skin maintain a moisture balance that results in smoother, softer skin. So using goat milk soap can be just as nourishing for your skin as goat milk is for the rest of your body.
So I decided to try out some goat milk soap to see if I liked it, if it worked and if I’d see or notice any difference. By the way, I have extremely dry skin so I’m very careful what I use, otherwise I’m flaking and itching all the time.
Where I bought it from…
Well, it just so happens that my brother and sister-in-law own a goat farm. Seriously. (My brother’s been a Texas firefighter for the past 10 years and still is one but he just so happens to own a goat farm too!–Loving animals runs in our family I guess.) Anyway, because they live in Texas and I live in Colorado, I never thought to talk about their goat farm or products that Becki makes. But then I remembered there’s this thing called the internet, where you can actually order products from anywhere! (My husband had to call my attention to this.)
K&B Ranch…My brother (Kenny) and sister-in-law Becki own a 33 acre ranch in Texas where they breed pure, high quality Myotonic goats (otherwise known as fainting goats.) If for no other reason, you should check out their site just to see the pictures of the ranch and the cute goats, especially the babies! I told Becki the other day that I’d never get any work done around the ranch because I’d be laughing each and every time the goats “fainted.” Actually, the goats never lose consciousness when they “faint.” They (the Myotonic goats) have an inherited neuromuscular condition (myotonia) that causes the goats to stiffen and sometimes briefly fall over. Becki said if that happens while they are eating, they continue to chew, just laying down. I’m laughing as I picture this!
I haven’t visited my brother’s ranch, where they have over 50 goats, chickens, pigs, horses and Great Pyrenees but I am jealous! Yes, here in Colorado Springs I have my fox, squirrel, deer and occasional bear, but they aren’t really “mine”…even though I do name them. Kenny and Becki love animals and I’m sure they treat each and every animal on their ranch as if they were a pet! (Meaning, they take really good care of them.) Becki also shows her goats and does hoof trimming…which I never in my wildest dreams imagined her doing!
So I ordered some soaps and lotions from them and immediately started using them the second they arrived. The verdict…LOVE them. I even used the soap on my face and didn’t end up with dry, itchy skin. Becki also sent me an unscented bar for Paul to try (in case he didn’t want to smell like vanilla or jasmine!) and he likes it too. Here’s all the products Becki has, including some summer sales going on.
I decided to try out a couple of different products and scents, (since I saw the word sale I had to take advantage of it!) and I now have more soap than I’ll use in the next 6 months.
Which brings me to a new contest…
