Terry is our newest Discover Goodwill Fashion Contest Winner ans I have to apologize about my pictures. I had a camera challenge that I absolutely could not figure out how to fix so out of over a couple of hundred pictures, I literally had maybe 10 that weren’t blurry but they aren’t as good as they should be! And I actually wish I had had a video camera so I could have not only captured how fabulous Terry looked but also her energy and spirit!
Terry told me that as a woman who will be 68 in June, life is still a grand adventure. I loved her immediately! Instead of the “life is good”, it was “Life is still a grand adventure,” what a wonderful way to look at life. You know, in my personal life I gravitate to women who have upbeat personalities and try to stay positive no matter what life challenges they’re dealing with. And I can honestly say that I’ve seen that same attitude from our monthly winners and Terry’s a perfect example of someone who just has an inner glow because of her outlook. It was fun hanging out with her and swapping stories as we shopped.
Terry was raised on a farm in Minnesota and growing up, always wanted to be a teacher and travel. She got her wish and had 24 wonderful years overseas, teaching on military bases in the Middle East, Far East, and Europe.
We found these black Kenneth Cole shoes that Terry said were comfortable for only $4.99. The heels and soles were in perfect condition and once they’re shined just a bit, they will actually look brand new. (Brand new they would have cost approximately $49.)
Terry is busier in her retirement than most people I know working full-time. Among a lot of different things, Terry’s very active retirement includes spending time doing her art, which includes various different mediums, volunteering, traveling, walking and hosting her many friends that enjoy visiting her in beautiful Colorado.
I actually picked up this black shawl, thinking I’d buy it for myself because it was in perfect condition and only $2.99. Two years ago I picked up a very similar one for &75 and two years later, it’s in bad shape. But Terry liked it, tried it on, and after seeing it on her, well, we added it to her pile. I mean, it was supposed to be a shopping trip for her!
Another thing I totally enjoyed about Terry is that not only does she belong to several different local groups and clubs, but she also internet dates! That’s my kind of woman. We shared dating stories since that’s how I met my husband, about 5 1/2 years ago, and I just liked her spunk. Terry is a thrift loving woman and said she tries to share with her younger friends the benefits of shopping at places like Goodwill…which saves her money and helps her be more green.
We shopped at the Discover Goodwill on Kelly Johnson and as usual, we appreciate their courtesy and help. I HAD to stay after Terry and I finished up so I could pick up a few cute tops to wear on our cooking videos; I found, 8 all for $1.99 or less!
I am so sorry my camera gave me challenges, and I can assure you there’s nothing wrong with the camera, it’s all in the user, and I was unable to get any pictures of other outfits Terry tried on. Thank goodness the dress we both liked and that we bought was actually the only dress picture that came out!
Terry’s planning on wearing this to her next “Newcomer” event, (Cheyenne Mountain Newcomers Club) which will be held at The Cliff House at Pikes Peak, which we both thought this would be perfect for. The dress is Studio 1 and cost $7.99.
Terry, it was wonderful meeting you and getting to spend some time together. I love your attitude, your enthusiasm for life and I wish you all the best! (And you’ll have to keep us posted on the dating!)
