So as I wrote yesterday, Target launched its Prabal Gurung For Target line (yesterday) and I wanted to check the clothes out first hand…just because it has a designer label on it, doesn’t mean it’s of good quality or will even hang well on us non-model types of women. First of all, there were three other women trying the same clothes on as me in the dressing room, two being younger and one being older. That worked out for me because I could see how other body shapes were looking with the clothes and I was able to get their opinions. All of us found something we loved. Some of the thinner material dresses didn’t fit me in the chest very well but looked lovely on the two women in their late 20’s. The woman who was slightly older than me said she loved the skirts and some of the casual shirts but thought the sizes ran small. I found a couple of items that fit in a size bigger than I usually wear so you just need to try whatever you want on because even within the same line, sizing does differ.
I found this fabulous skirt and top that fit great and reminded me of something I might find at White House Black Market. I thought this particular skirt and top were very well made and the best part….both pieces are machine washable and tumble dry!
The skirt was $29.99 and the top $24.99. Not too expensive, the clothes fit and felt great but I didn’t know if I really wanted to pay $29.99! I think I have become over-frugal with all my thrift store shopping! And to be quite honest, we are not so tightly on a budget that my husband would care if I spent $30 bucks on a skirt but well, it was $30. Then I started thinking about other ways I could wear the skirt and top, which would then give me more than one outfit for the price. I love the way the skirt and top look together and the first thing my husband said when he saw this was, “Great outfit for dinner downtown.”….the shoes are Xhilaration (from Target) for $29.99 and VERY comfortable.
You can also add a belt of course.
For a cocktail party or evening out, you can add a dressier top.
Add a halter or tank with a pair of cute sandals for a casual but fun summer day….I just got these Fergalicious sandals at Goodwill for $4.99.
Another easy summer look….
Throw a blazer on with a tank or blouse for a work-appropriate outfit.
You can also pair the top with lots of different bottoms for different looks….jeans, capris, skirts, dress pants….
Boots and a sweater for a casual day of errands, work, or actually, anything in the cooler months.
I literally could have paired both pieces with at least another 10 or 12 items from my closet to change the look up. This skirt and top can be worn year-round, made to look casual or dressier, it’s machine washable, and it fits…..making them, in my opinion, worth the money I spent. Hope this gives you some ideas on how to create a few different looks from one item, which stretches your dollar and doesn’t take up a ton of closet space.
*I could have changed the looks up even more with tights or stockings.
