From time to time, Target will feature a clothing line from an upscale designer, moderately priced and available for a limited time. Today marks the launch of Prabal Gurung For Target…which includes spring-ready bright colors and feminine prints.
Is “designer” better?
I have looked at some of the past “designer” collections that have been rolled out at Target but I haven’t purchased anything before because I either thought the items were overpriced or the quality just wasn’t there. You know, even though I tend to buy a lot of my clothes at thrift stores, specifically Goodwill, I don’t mind spending a higher dollar amount for quality, new clothing that will last. I have a lot of clothes from White House Black Market, Banana Republic, Ann Taylor and J.Crew that I probably spent over $100 (for a dress or great pair of pants) and those items fit perfectly and even five to eight years later, are still in perfect condition. Higher end designers usually use better quality materials that wash better and just last. BUT just because something has a “designer” label on it, doesn’t mean it’s better than a non-designer label.
About Prabal Gurung
If you’re not familiar with Prabal Gurung…he launched his first collection during New York Fashion week in 2009, interned for Donna Karan in 1999, worked with Cynthia Rowley’s design team for two years, and was the design direcor at Bill Blass before going solo. His clothes have been worn by Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lawrence, Oprah Winfrey and Michelle Obama (just a few celebrities who wear him)…..not that that matters to me but just fyi.
The Prabal Gurung at Target Line
The line being sold at Target is a vibrant 8o-piece capsule of floral frocks, patterned tops, and winsome accessories. Gurung says, “I’m a die-hard romantic. I believe we’re all motivated by love, whether we are still looking for it, have already found it, or just lost it. I hope the woman who buys my designs feels a bit of happiness and romance when wearing them.”…….Perfect for a pre-Valentine launch.
The accessories and clothes will range in price from $14.99 (for a bracelet) to $199.99 (for a leather jacket). I’ll be heading out shortly to check out everything. I’m particularly interested in checking out the shoes like the flat sandals for $29.99 and the lace up pumps for $34.99. In the “look book” below, you’ll see everything this line will have to offer. They look good but again, just because it has a “designer” label, doesn’t mean it’s going to look and feel great in person. If the quality is there, I don’t have a problem spending a bit more.
I’ll check in later and give my opinion on the quality of the clothes and accessories….and if I bought anything! Just remember, no matter how cute something looks in a magazine or on the hanger, make sure it looks good on YOU.
If you purchase anything from this line, we’d love to hear what you think about it!
