I started this week not feeling so hot and now feel really bad. I thought (wishful thinking) it was more allergy related but when the high temperatures and cold chills began, I figured it was more like the flu…but I don’t know that for a fact. Regardless of what I have, I feel horrible. For me, the worst part of being sick is not having the energy or ability to be productive. I do like having breaks and downtime but ONLY when its my decision!
For the first time since we began our site, I had to cancel filming our cooking videos because I didn’t think I could get through even a couple of minutes without sneezing, coughing, sweating, or having the energy to lift a spoon. And I didn’t want to get Trig sick and then he go home and spread it to his wife and kids…..and well, I looked horrible! Seriously, you can’t film a cooking video when your nose is dripping….somehow, it’s just not appetizing.
For me, the worst part of not filming was all the prep and money I had already invested for the three shoots. The night before we were suppose to film, I had gone to the grocery store, priced my food, spent HOURS shredding butternut squash, carrots, and yellow squash (for a veggie-filled snacks post), prepped my filet mignon (Valentine dinner post), and started cooking some of the “finished” food shots. And even though I kept washing my hands and made sure I was sneezing and coughing in to my shoulder, I kept thinking, “Well there’s no way I want to sample this food or have Trig taste-test this”.
I got about two hours of sleep, went through an entire box of Kleenex, and woke up feeling worse than the night before (and seriously looked like a raccoon). As I tried to get the kitchen back in order at 5 am, because I had left every counter full of dirty dishes the night before, Paul was giving me a pep talk of how I could do it and once filming was done, I could go back to bed. At 6 am, as I surveyed the still dirty kitchen (and at this point couldn’t keep my nose from dripping for even a minute), I had to pick up the phone and cancel the day’s shoot.
I was able to rally long enough, pumped with every over the counter medicine I had, to make the KKTV’s Moms Everyday filming (thank goodness Ashley was with me to help with talking!) but then I was back in bed and feeling even worse. I was able to save the filet mignon by getting it in the freezer in a timely manner but pretty much everything else will have to be tossed or….sometimes I “accidentally” spill leftovers outside and the wildlife just happen to eat it.
I’m optimistic this won’t last much longer and I will say I am very thankful that my doctor had started me on high doses of vitamins a couple of months ago because if I had started this illness being as vitamin-depleted as I had been, well, I’m sure I’d have been a lot worse off. My husband’s been sleeping in the guest room so he doesn’t get sick and all the cats have been extra naughty because they are feeling neglected…(thank goodness it’s not Paul being naughty and the cats sleeping in the guest room!) Even our fox have been wondering what’s up. Usually they come to the back door to see what may have “accidentally” spilled on the deck but the other day, Roxy (who’s been coming by for 5 years now), actually was peeking in our bedroom window, trying to let me know I was falling down on the job.
I have a few more days to rally before we try to video again and hopefully by that time I will be feeling better and wake up without dried slobber (or worse) coating my face and pillow! And at least I know what I’m cooking and how long it will take me to prep all the food again since I had a “rehearsal”.
