Carrie is our latest Goodwill fashion makeover winner and she’s also the first person who has won one of our contests that happens to be a friend of mine. We were specifically looking for holiday party attire, which we found, but Carrie also found some other really cute outfits that she ended up buying. Here’s some of the fabulous looks we pulled together….
Carrie tried on this Merona polka dot dress, which fit really well but for the cooler months, we decided to pair it with this white Liz Claiborne sweater. This is one of my favorite “tricks” to do with my sleeveless summer dresses…throw on a sweater and it looks like a skirt, which can extend your wardrobe for year-round wear. Carrie bought the sweater which was (after the 30% savings) $2.09. The dress was $5.99, which she didn’t buy because we found something she liked a little more. The purse was $5.99, which I bought.
This Megan Mathews dress fit Carrie perfectly and was comfortable. This was in our “keeper” pile from the minute she tried it on….until she found another dress she liked better. The dress was marked $5.99 (which is a great price), but it was 30% off so it would have only cost $4.19, about the same price you’d spend for lunch at a fast food restaurant!
I love anything made in this material…which is super comfy and forgiving on most body shapes. Carrie liked the way it fit and felt but like a lot of us, she is a little self-conscious about her upper arms and prefers something with a bit of sleeve. This black “velvet” dress was $7.99 but marked down 30% so it only cost $5.59 and the grey pearls were $5.99.
Carrie and her husband Tony have been together for 21 years (wow!) and have two children who have left the nest. (Her son was just hired on to the Colorado Springs Fire Department and her daughter just moved in with three friends and is taking college classes.) Carrie’s the manager at a medical center but recently started taking culinary classes at PPCC (along with her husband). I love that!
$6.99 for this dress and jacket is a steal but it was another 30% mark down so it only cost $4.89. And while we both liked it, we felt it was a bit “matronly” for her. With the kids out of the house, Carrie and Tony are in their “second honeymoon” phase and she wanted something with a little bit more “va-voom”!
This was one of our absolute favorites! The skirt is Liz Claiborne and only cost $1.00!! It was priced at $3.99 but was 75% off….FABULOUS deal! The black Croft & Barrow sweater was only $2.00, after the 30% savings so for the skirt and sweater…$3.00. The necklace we added was $8.99. Carrie ended up buying the skirt and sweater.
Carrie spotted this Hillard & Hanson jacket priced at $7.99 (which if it had been in my size, I would have arm wrestled her for it!), and it goes perfect with the skirt and sweater….she also bought the jacket.
This black Mossimo skirt was one of our bargain finds….priced $3.99 but marked down 75% so another $1.00 deal! With a little cami and the jacket, she has a whole new look….and of course she bought the skirt!
Here’s the two party dresses we ended up buying…
Carried liked the way this dress fit and she said it was comfortable (and she looks fabulous in it). The dress was $4.99 and the heart necklace, which we also purchased, was $6.99.
This “Snap” dress was Carrie’s very favorite outfit she tried on. I’m thinking her and Tony might not make it to a party when he sees her in it! It gives her the flirty feel she was looking for and shows off her assets without showing too much skin. The dress was $7.99 AND still had the original tags on it. We added a $1.99 belt for some definition on her waist and kept the heart necklace she liked so much for $6.99.
So for the two party dresses, belt and heart necklace….we ended up spending $22.96. Carrie purchased the white and black sweaters, the two skirts, the jacket and a pink St. John’s Bay sweater and walked out spending $22.99 (with tax)….not a bad day!
