I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, (and again, and again)….these Goodwill fashion contests are one of my very favorite things we do on our site. I have met so many wonderful women (and children) and we always find something fabulous for them to wear. Jennifer is our latest winner and we had a blast shopping and taking pictures…and we found her a lot of clothes!
Jennifer is very slender and typically wears black or grey. She also has a tendency to wear baggy clothes to add some bulk to her frame. She was interested in finding clothes with color and something she could wear to church. My friend (and fellow fashionista) Ashley was able to join us for the shopping trip, which I always appreciate because it helps having another person searching through the racks!
Capris don’t have to be just for summer. These Tommy Hilfiger capris were marked $3.99 but on sale for $2.00. This striped Old Navy top was on sale for $1.50….both items were in perfect condition and items she can pair with anything in her closet. Jennifer can also wear high boots with the capris. The capris and top together cost $3.50!
Ashley and I told Jennifer to stop wearing those baggy clothes, to add a belt or other accessories, and to wear more fitted clothing to give her shape some definition.
Ashley showing Jennifer how to think outside the box with accessories….a scarf can easily work as a belt.
Jennifer’s a mother of two sons (a 3 and 6-year-old) and married. She’s a stay at home mom (she used to be a teacher) so we wanted to find her casual but fashionable clothes that fit her lifestyle…with color.
These Calvin Klein jeans were the best deal of the day! (I admit that Ashley found them and I thought they wouldn’t fit….but they did). They were priced at $3.99 but on sale for $2.79 and in pristine condition. The Xhileration top was on sale for $2.00 and the fabulous necklace only $2.99, making the entire outfit cost $7.78….and again, each of these items can be worn with lots of combinations. The top would work well with tights and boots too.
Talk about a pop of color! This Faded Glory top was only $1.99. We paired it with the necklace we loved and the Calving Klein jeans….for an outfit that cost $7.77. And Jennifer was so open about trying on everything Ashley and I threw in the cart. She loved all the colorful items and they brightened up her complexion.
While we were in the dressing room, one of the Goodwill employees, Ursula, was hanging up clothes and started giving us helpful suggestions….even picking out a few things for Jennifer to try on. She was so sweet, and as usual, all the employees were accommodating and didn’t mind that we kind of take over the dressing room area! We shopped at the Constitution location. Thanks Ursula!
This was one of our favorite outfits. The Daytrip sweater was $2.99 (which we paired with the Calvin Klein jeans)….the buttons add some detail and helps give Jennifer some curve up on top! $5.78 for this outfit.
It’s interesting how people are connected sometimes. I had never met Jennifer before but she knows Trig, our website nerd-extraordinaire who takes my words and photos everyday and creates our posts. They know each other through church and that’s how she heard about our site. And then there’s Ashley, who also knows Trig because her husband and Trig knew each other. Before we launched our site, I had never met Ashley either. When Ashley and I first met, (through Trig), she gave me a Goodwill gift card, which gave me the idea of paying it forward, and that’s how I came up with the Goodwill fashion makeover idea……and here we all were, having a great time and finding fabulous clothes.
Speaking of church, we had started our shopping trip with wanting to find clothes with color and something Jennifer could wear to church….Well, I think we found an outfit that met that criteria!
COLOR! Jennifer loved this outfit. The Chaps jacket was $4.99 and the Volume 1 dress was $5.59. Jennifer wore her black boots with this outfit so we added a simple black scarf ($1.39), which tied the entire outfit together.
There was a time we were paying for the outfits we found at Goodwill for our contest winners and (because I too am on a budget), we would find one outfit. Then we were given some gift cards from Keri Funkhouser, Communications Specialist with Discover Goodwill, which gave me the opportunity to allot up to $25 for each winner (THANK YOU KERI!). Well, 719Woman was feeling generous this month and it is Christmas, so we just bought everything Jennifer tried on and liked! We bought all the outfits above, which was 10 different items and we only spent $28.23 (before tax)….Ten items for $28.23!!
I’m thinking Jennifer was excited when she found out she was going home with everything!
