Every month we feature different ideas for hostess gifts. If you know your host/hostess, it’s easier to choose a small gift since you know their personality. Of course a bottle of wine, flowers, or even a small plant is always an appropriate gift but here’s a few items that might spark an idea. This month I chose stores that are national chains so chances are, no matter where you live, one of these might be in your area.
The Finds
Our friends Mark and Cindy (our daughter-in-law’s parents), host Thanksgiving at their house and then we host Christmas. This year I’m taking my black truffle deviled eggs with pickled mustard seeds (for all of our get-togethers, everyone brings a dish to help defray costs and time spent cooking). Transporting deviled eggs can be tricky but with these deviled egg trays (2 for $8.41 at Sears), with snap on lids, it will be easy and the trays will be my hostess gift. If you are taking food to a dinner, a nice platter, bowl or dish, with your food in it always makes a great gift and it saves your hostess the chore of cleaning the container and getting it back to you.
This Thanksgiving kitchen towel is cute, practical and something your hostess can use year after year. And it’s only $3.99 at World Market. Any seasonal kitchen towel (or something in “her colors” if you know them), would be a great gift.
Another product that would make a great gift from World Market is this 16 ounce bag of pumpkin crunch popcorn, which is blended with caramel corn drizzled with milk chocolate, almonds, pumpkin and cinnamon….wish I had some right now! It’s $6.99 and sure to satisfy any hostess with a sweet tooth.
This mini wax warmer ($9.96 from Wal-Mart) comes with wax tarts and is available in a variety of colors. And she can use it year-round with her favorite scented wax tarts….Candles awlays make a nice gift too.
For the animal loving hostess….this weather-resistant Eastern Red Cedar 2 in 1 bird bath or feeder ($9.98 at Home Depot) is perfect. It comes with the hardware to hang so your hostess just needs to add some water or bird seed.
Skin can be so dry this time of year, especially your hands. I love this J.R. Watkins Natural Apothecary Hand & Body Lotion in Lemon Cream ($7.79 at Walgreens). It moisturizes really well, it’s long-lasting, not greasy, and it smells great.
For the hostess who likes a bit of “bling”, this silver frame embellished with decorative jewels and an intricate finish is a perfect gift. It’s $14.99 (on sale at Koh’s for $7.49 when I wrote this).
If your hostess drinks wine and loves shoes….these shoe wine charms would be a great choice. They are $9.99 at Bed Bath And Beyond for a set of 6 charms.
Who doesn’t like hot cocoa? This Peppermint Hot Cocoa Mix (from Starbucks, $6.49 for 8 servings) is a blend of intense dark chocolate with a tingle of refreshing peppermint, for a sweet and surprising twist. And it’s delicious!
Remember, you can take these ideas and shop anywhere. And it’s always a nice idea to phone, write or email a nice thank (after the event) to your hostess.
