Meet Sarah….our newest Goodwill fashion makeover winner.
Sarah’s 18 years old, attends college (for her bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education ) and also works as a nanny. She told me she pretty much lives in sweats and hoodies but wanted to try something different and a little more feminine…but she still wanted the comfort her sweats provide. So we grabbed a couple of carts and started our mission…something different, feminine and comfortable.
Our cart was overflowing with dresses and skirts when we headed to the dressing room.
Now Sarah didn’t get this outfit but she liked it….we both really liked the teal sweater so that went in our “keep” pile. The skirt was comfortable and flattering and encouraged our quest for comfort and “girly”. Sarah likes wearing black and grey so we narrowed our search for something in those colors…
This was a winner! The black dress (Caliche) was a perfect fit and exactly what we were looking for. It’s a great length for her, black, and super comfortable. And when we added this Jaclyn Smith sweater (($4.99) for a pop of color, it really pulled the look together. It’s everything Sarah was looking for. The dress, which is a great clothing staple and can be worn year-round, was $5.59 and the sweater, which will also look really cute with jeans or leggings was $3.99.
One of the things I enjoy about our Goodwill makeovers is meeting the winners and getting to know them a bit. Sarah said her idea of the perfect job after she graduates would be to run her own successful in home childcare center. She enjoys and wants to work with children because they always put a smile on her face and she hopes to make a difference in their lives. When not working or studying, she’s usually singing, cleaning or spending time with her boyfriend…not that she has a lot of extra time right now.
When Sarah tried this Sonoma sweater on with the black dress, we couldn’t decide which one we liked better…so I said get both! It was only $4.99 and we were still within our budget. We added a chunky black bead necklace for $4.99 and Sarah was happy with the look. And again, she can pair this sweater with jeans or black leggings and boots.
We bought the black dress (which she can wear year-round), the two sweaters and the necklace for a total of $19.56. All the pieces are versatile, comfortable and both the sweater colors look fabulous with Sarah’s beautiful red hair and creamy complexion. Sarah told me she really enjoyed our time together and learned how to put clothing items together to make a super cute outfit….that she’ll wear.
Sarah and I met at the Goodwill in Fountain (6725 Camden Blvd) and it was the first time I had visited this store. As usual, (one of the reasons I love shopping at Goodwill), the staff was friendly and helpful. We had a great time together, found some fabulous clothes and Sarah was very happy! Not a bad way to spend an afternoon!

Suzi….I am so sorry that things have not happened in a timely fashion. I have had a gift card for you and was waiting on your address. I am about 300 emails behind. This is not typical of me as anyone who knows me can attest. We usually meet up with our winners within a week. And it’s not because I don’t want to send you a card…there have been lots of times I go out of pocket to help someone who needs a couple more things….I LOVE doing the Goodwill contests and helping other women. The best way to reach me lately has been through our Facebook because there’s not that many messages and I can keep up with them easier. If you could please message me your address, the card will go out in the morning. Again, I apologize if it seems like I ignore you or didn’t want to follow through with you winning.
