I love meeting new people and on this Goodwill shopping trip I got to meet Maddie and see a past Goodwill fashion winner, Teresa. Teresa had entered a friend in our latest contest who’s working hard to finish her degree, raising two children, and like most of us, trying to make ends meet. What a great friend Teresa is…not only did she enter her friend’s children in the contest, she brought them shopping! (Mom was busy studying for a test).
Anyway, Maddie is eleven years old and tall and thin and likes wearing jeans, even though finding jeans that are long enough for her, yet small enough for her frame, can be a challenge. I told her I’d never had that problem but I’m still waiting for my “growth spurt”.
We were able to find two pairs of jeans that fit perfect and were long enough and three really cute tops.
Maddie was a great sport and literally tried on TONS of jeans….but she was very patient and good-natured. We found this pair of Crest jeans that were long and lean that she liked ($3.99) and this pink (one of her favorite colors) Lipsy tops for 69 cents! Total cost of the outfit…$4.68! It’s hard enough to find a top for that price, much less jeans and a top!
Maddie will be starting the 6th grade this year and her favorite subject is history. These are the Crest jeans she already knew fit that we paired with this yellow Maxi tank ($1.99) that she really liked. Total cost of her outfit was $5.98. She’ll be able to wear all of the tops we found with other clothes she already owns and of course wear her “new” jeans with other tops she has.
Maddie’s brother Ryan came along (he’s 9) and was a sweetheart. He helped his sister look for clothes in her sizes and was helpful with his input. I love seeing siblings who get along with each other, especially at that age! They were both very polite, cute and had their own sense of style already.
Maddie said she’s looking forward to seeing all her friends when school starts.
This outfit was my favorite because I think the colors look great on her!
Maddie found these Almost Famous jeans (for $3.99) that fit perfectly (finding two pairs of jeans that fit and are the right length in one day is no easy task…but we were lucky and I’m glad she was able to find them). I love how this Faded Glory top fits and looks on her. The color is perfect on her! The top cost $2.99 for a total price of $6.98!
Two pairs of great fitting (and in perfect condition) jeans and three tops that she really liked…for a grand total of $13.65! Not bad!
You know, as the kids get older, the clothes become more expensive and the fact that we were able to get all of this for under $14.00 just goes to show you that you can find clothes for all ages and shapes and tastes at Goodwill. Maddie was very pleased with her purchases and she looked beautiful in all of them.
Maddie and Ryan, I was very happy to meet both of you and spend some time shopping. You were both very patient! (I’ve been surprised at how patient our back-to-school winners have been…I don’t remember shopping experiences with my son that were this easy!) I hope you both have a great school year and Maddie, I hope you enjoy wearing your new clothes! And thanks Teresa for entering them in our contest.
Tammy’s Tip ‘O the Day
*This was the first time I had visited the Goodwill at 2655 Waynoka (Powers and Constitution) and once again, the staff were very nice! That’s one of the reasons I love shopping at Goodwill…everyone’s always helpful and friendly! And of course the prices are great…the store was clean, well-organized, and there was a good selection of merchandise.
