I think anything and everything tastes better when cooked on the grill…from veggies and fruits to fish, chicken, and the most popular grilled item...steaks.
Yahoo! Shine posted a list of steaks which are cheaper cuts that grill up nicely. Marinades and rubs will help tenderize them.
However, I’m not for sure where they got their pricing for the New York strips….$15.00 a pound?? This week Safeway has their New York strips on sale for $7.99 lb.
One of the steaks listed is flat-iron and it is one of my personal favorites for a less expensive cut that grills up nicely and this week on sale at Safeway for $6.99 lb.
Remember….check out the section at almost every grocery store where they have their discounted meats. There’s nothing wrong with them but are marked down anywhere from 25 to 50% off because they are getting near their expiration date or the store has too much in stock. If you buy meats that are marked down, either cook them up or stick them in the freezer for a later date. We eat more ribeye and New York strips but only buy them when they are marked down in the clearance section. And if you’re in the mood for steak but the budget is tight, why not cut up a smaller portion of meat and mix with inexpensive veggies for kabobs….tastes great, healthier than eating a big slab of beef and satisfies the need for steak without breaking the bank.
Do you have a favorite inexpensive steak or tenderizing method?
