I love fresh flowers. I just wish they lasted longer!
I recently read an article that suggested dropping an aspirin in the water would help keep them fresh for longer.
I used mini carnations in my “experiment” (to see if even the type of flower made a difference) and I did come up with different results. The flowers that did the worst were the ones I put in water with an aspirin. I couldn’t, to be honest, tell that much of a difference between the three that did the best:
- one had just water
- one had water plus the plant food (the kind that usually comes with bouquets)
- one had water and a penny
I bought my flowers at Albertsons (all pictured) for $4.00 and did the test for seven days. Additionally, I bought flowers (about 8 varieties) for our launch party on March 2nd and I just threw them out yesterday! All I did was change the water occasionally and only added the plant food originally. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I’m always happy with their flowers…cheap and fresh and they seem to last longer than flowers I get from other stores.
Is there a “trick” you use that works for keeping your flowers fresher longer?
