AND THE WINNERS ARE—Michelle Zamora and Megan Browning….(randomly picked)…..Congratulations ladies…you are our Goodwill fashion make-over winners…!
Our first 719Woman.com CONTEST!
Attention, please, all of you wonderful ladies of Colorado Springs!
Do you know someone (or yourself) who needs a “new” outfit but there’s simply no extra money right now to spend on clothes?
Do not despair, fair sister! Help is here!
Learn the thrill of the style-hunt from the master herself!
Simply tell us about a friend (or yourself) and the reason why they (you) need a “new” something….maybe there’s a new job or interview coming up, a change of lifestyle, a special event… (or just the simple fact that it’s hard enough to put food on the table, much less shop for an outfit!).
Enter between March 2nd and March 16th and we’ll pick two winners (at random) on March 17th….the two winners will go on a shockingly-stylish shopping soiree at Goodwill (with me, Tammy) and I promise we’ll find something fabulous…whether it’s a dress, pants and top, or skirt and top….and I’ll personally show you all my “tips” on how to shop thrift stores and get the most bang for your buck!
Simple to enter, impossible to resist…
All you have to do to enter this amazing-ness is… leave a comment.
That’s it: leave a comment (use your email, of course), and on 3/17/2012 we’ll randomly pick two winners and announce it here on this post, AND by your email.
Good luck, and good shopping!

My husband was recently demoted at his job & he lost more than 50% of his earnings. I was working part time, but now I work full time to help out with our house hold. We have 4 children, ages 13, 11, 8 & 7. We try to make sure that they have the essentials (food, clothes, roof over their heads). We can not afford new items, so we go to lots of flea markets, yard sales. We also shop at the ARC & Goodwill. It’s a struggle, but we get by with what we have. We make the best of what we have also. Thank you for your time.
Tammy says
I know how difficult it is to work full time AND raise children-I only raised one, can’t imagine doing that with four. You have a great attitude and as women, we do for our children first and make sure they are taken care of. And buying clothes for our children on a budget can be tough-especially with teens! Again, I think you have a positive attitude in a difficult situation and I thank you for participating in our contest…and even after we pick the two winners from this particular contest, we will continue to run new contests, including fashion finds for men, children and teens.
Tiffanie Fritz says
I’d love a fashion makeover. Most of my clothes are older than my kids and I get so overwhelmed every time I shop because I do not know what looks good on me.
Tammy says
I think knowing what really looks good on you and flatters your assets and hides what we want hidden can be difficult and overwhelming. Once you find particular styles that do that, it will make future shopping easier. I hope with this site, we will make shopping easier and less stressful….we will be doing some video shopping in the future with different body types to help with this. Thanks for participating.
Vikki says
That would be wonderful.. I have been cutting and coloring my hair for years and have one pair of jeans because of some weight gain.. I love fashion but am always trying to save money. This would be a real treat!!!
Tammy says
I think coloring and cutting your hair is great! I color my own hair too but have to get it professionally done sometimes because I have some really stubborn grey hair. And I love that you love fashion! Weight gain can throw a kink in our wardrobe choices (or weight loss)…bet we could find you another pair or two of jeans that would fit and flatter…thank you for participating.
Ann Dunbar says
First of all…Thank You for having such a Wonderful Contest! My comment is for my 15 year old daughter,,I would like to try to win for her to get a make over,,,Natasha has some medical issues,,,diagnosed last March and the medicine has been harsh to her body/skin/and some hair loss….seen this contest and as a Mommy,,thought of her!! Thanks again for the chance to win,,Good Luck to all the Ladies who entered!!! God Bless ya all….
Tammy says
What a great mom you are! And I hope Natasha is doing better with her medications even though she’s having to deal with some tough side effects….and that has to be hard for a teenager to deal with. Again, we will continue to run different contests (some just for teens because that is such a difficult age and there’s that added pressure to “fit in” and look a “certain way”). Thanks for participating and tell Natasha we wish her the best with her medical situation.
Megan Browning says
I just had my 3rd bundle of joy, she is now 5 weeks old and I have a severely lacking wardrobe. As in sweatpants is all, really. I do have a pair of jeans but they look awful! A new outfit would BA amazing and a confidence booster I’m sure 🙂 thank you!
Tammy says
Oh what babies can do to our bodies! (But they are worth it!) Bet we could find something that ISN’T sweatpants but still be comfy and flattering. Thanks for participating and enjoy that baby!
Jewell Brungardt says
I have a friend who is the mother of 3 girls, 19, 17, and 11. Her husband was layed off from his teaching job 5 + years ago and is leaving her to be the breadwinner while he does…..? She is also a teacher and was laid off last year but quickly was able to find another job. I think this might be a boost for her because she does so much and gets so little in return. Sometime being a mom is hard and you lose site of things you like/want. She’s been living on a TIGHT budget for along time Just want to see her get something nice.
Tammy says
What a nice friend you are to think of your friend and recognize the difficulties she’s going through. And I admire and respect teachers so much. There’s times when just a little something can be a real boost for the morale…thanks for participating and your friend is lucky to have you as a friend!
Pam Beurman says
Oh please pick me! I live on a farm and i’m trapped in jeans/sweats and I can’t get out!
I live in north Pueblo County and i’ve hit every thrift shop here to little avail. There’s a serious “short person” clothing shortage around here.
Tammy says
Ok, you made me laugh really hard…glad I wasn’t drinking something or else I might have choked when I was laughing! I haven’t visited any of the Pueblo thrift stores yet so I’ll have to make my way there and check them out….and as a short person, I know what you mean! Of course all my tall friends tell me they have trouble finding “tall people” clothing. ha! Thanks for participating.
Tammy says
I can tell it’s going to be tough ONLY picking two winners and we still have over a week for entries…
Debbie says
I so need a makeover! I work two jobs (my hubby is out of work) and really don’t have much time for clothes shopping. I own one pair of blue jeans (old), one pair of black pants, and a hand-full of tops for work. I mostly wear my hiking shoes and really don’t have a pair of dress shoes. My hair is in need of a cut (my last was last fall) and style. I’m kind of in a fashion rut . . . if you could call it “fashion.”
Tammy says
Ok, you seriously do need some more clothes! AND shoes! I have some friends who have had to take on more work because their husbands have lost their jobs or become ill and I know it’s rough. And then there’s always work to do at home after working a job and shopping falls to the bottom of the “need to do list”. Thanks for participating.
Leslie says
This would be a wonderful treat! I’ve recently left the full-time world of work, and gone to the full-time world of self-employment. I still need to look “office-ready”, and get utterly frustrated every morning, just trying to find something to wear that looks good! The budget is very tight, as I solely support 6 people in my house (son, daughter, ex, and grandbabies!). I live at Goodwill, but being a non-fashion, part color-blind woman, it’s hit and miss for me as to something actually matching!
Tammy says
First of all, I wish you well with your self-employment….it can be scary to start something new, especially when you have so many depending on you. And when you start off the day frustrated with what to wear, it can have a snowball effect sometimes…(am working on a story this week on spring cleaning your clothes closet so that getting ready in the morning is a little easier). Good luck with career change and thanks for participating.
Sue says
We’ve been getting by, but there’s really no money for nice clothes. The good side is that over the last year, I’ve lost 45 lbs. The bad side is that I’m still wearing most of my big clothes. I use belts, dry them in the dryer, etc. But I need some new. And on top of that, I have very little fashion sense–when I was working, i went with very conservative, “classic” clothes.
Tammy says
CONGRATULATIONS on your weight loss! That really takes motivation and willpower, so good for you! BUT you can’t be wearing the same clothes or people won’t be able to really see how great you look. Of course it is a little easier to wear clothes that are too big versus too small…but we need to get you in to something that showcases all your hard work. Thanks for participating.
Debbie Evert says
Pick me! Pick me! Pick me!
Tammy says
Maybe! Maybe! Maybe!
Jenna Tracy says
This would be an amazing experience! Our family just moved here less than two months ago and I’ve been in a homesick rut. My wardrobe is simple and my lack of imagination leads me to wear the same things again and again. Thanks for this fun opportunity!
Tammy says
I remember when we first moved here back in 2002 and being homesick but everyone here was so nice and welcoming I soon felt right at home! And I’m glad you found us so soon! Don’t know if you’ve visited the thrift stores but with the savings they have, we could build you up a wardrobe! Thanks for participating
Christine York-Schmidt says
I am the same size I’ve been for over thirty years so I keep on wearing the same clothes over and over again ’cause they just never die! My wardrobe is boring me. If I had any fashion sense, I’d know what’s in style, this year’s colors, and how to dress like a fashionista. I need professional help. Thanks for this shockingly stylish opportunity for a shopping soiree!
Tammy says
Lucky you being the same size for so long! (and since I DO know you (ha!), I know that you’re a great size and look good!) I’m taking you out of the contest and doing a make-over on you in exchange for the fabulous animal print belt you got me for my birthday and that I wore to the launch party….!
Brenda Kay Richards says
I would be tremendously grateful to win a make-over. For the past 15 months, I have been living with my parents, divorced, unemployed, depressed, overweight and wondering how at 53 years old I found myself back at square one. But at the beginning of March, I decided that something…anything had to change. I bought myself a beginners yoga DVD, which I do 5 times a week, I’m redoing my resume and I’ve given myself a deadline to be out on my own embarking on this new chapter in my life and pursuing my long held dreams. Winning a make-over would be heaven sent.
Tammy says
I think you’re on the right track…a lot of times we find ourselves in a situation and ask ourself, “how did I get here?” But you’ve made a decision AND taken steps to alter your path and that’s what’s important-that you want to change something and you’re taking control and acting on your decision. Good luck to you and don’t get discouraged at the little bumps that might pop up. Thanks for participating!
Michelle Long says
I love Goodwill! !
Tammy says
I KNOW! I have found White House Black Market, Banana Republic, Gap, Nine West, Ann Taylor, and the list goes on….always love a fellow thrift store shopper! Thanks for participating.
Deborah says
I could use some interview clothes for my job search starting next week.
Tammy says
Check out what people are wearing at where you’re interviewing….you want to “fit” in yet stand out (in a good way!) I KNOW we could find an interview-worthy outfit. Thanks for participating.
Laurie says
I need a job — and some clothes to wear to an office job, since it’s been a few years since I had to dress business casual! Thanks for a fun chance to win!
Tammy says
You know, we like to think that our appearances don’t matter that much when we’re skilled and smart at what we do but people do make snap judgements based on how we look (they might change their minds after getting to know you) but you want that first appearance at a job interview to be the BEST…dressy casual can be found at our local thrift stores. Thanks for participating.
caitlyn says
I do all my shopping at goodwill (minus groceries) save my kiss need sort clothes I’m so doesn with this context ! Thanks for the opportunity! P.s. my birthday is the 15th just saying!
Tammy says
Happy soon to be birthday! The day Goodwill (or arc or the Salvation Army) starts selling groceries, I’ll never have to shop anywhere else! ha! Thanks for participating.
Amy says
I Love Thrift Store Shopping – hope I get lucky with this drawing 🙂
Tammy says
It’s been amazing to hear how many people already thrift store shop…once you discover the deals, it’s hard to pay full price at other stores! Thanks for participating
Marta says
I would give it to a friend of mine who recently found out she is pregnant with out any insurance. I would love it if she could have some nice maturity clothes.
Tammy says
One of my best friends has been buying maternity clothes at Goodwill and arc and she’s found some great deals. Maternity clothes are so expensive but you have to have them when you’re pregnant! Thanks for participating for your friend.
Amanda Gomez says
I am a full time nursing student and mother of two. I could really use a makeover, the only “clothes” I have bought myself in over 4 years are scrubs. So my sttle is lacking. Good luck everyone!
Tammy says
Well, we WON’T make you over with “new” scrubs! (ha) There is always lots of scrubs at Goodwill…we could get you fixed up in something totally different! Thanks for participating.
Jennifer Ross says
The recession and the new life of parenthood is causing us to live on a very tight budget. Most of my clothes have been given to me by relatives and nothing fits me right!!!! I never go out and shop for myself, my kids always come first before me.
Tammy says
Yes, we always do put our kids first….we could find you something that not only looks good but fits! Thanks for participating.
Lea Ann says
I would like to enter my friend Julie who LOVES to shop but is going through a difficult time right now with the loss of her father and her own cancer journey.
Tammy says
My heart goes out to your friend Julie…and you know I know what she’s going through….(lost my mom and then two years later lost my late husband to cancer)…..thanks for entering her…
Lea Ann says
Hmm….just tried to post so I’ll do it again.
I’d like to enter my friend, Julie, who recently lost her dad and is on a cancer journey. She LOVES to shop and could use the encouragement.
Tanya says
Me me me I need some new threads!
Tammy says
You’re entered…..we can totally find you some “new threads”….that aren’t new! But look it!
Jill says
Hi, I’m 38… and pregnant… feeling frumpy… and I need a new something… actually a new everything. This would be a great opportunity for a little pick me up. Thank you so much.
Tammy says
First of all,,,congratulations and 38 years young and pregnant….seriously, congratulations! My friend found a “Motherhood” dress (perfect condition) at Goodwill for less than $5.00! We can help make you feel less frumpy!….Thanks for entereing
