** UPDATE – I just unpacked my Star Shower Laser Lights from last year and am happy to say they both still work! And this year I tried the new Star Shower Motion Laser Light and love it!

Want a festively decorated home without spending a lot of money or spending hours and hours hanging lights?
“Shower Your Home With Thousands of Laser Lights in Seconds!” is what the Star Shower Laser Light (an As Seen On TV product) claims, with no ladders, no hanging, no dead bulbs, and no mess.
When I saw this product advertised I immediately wanted one. If it worked, it could be a great compromise between my ideas of Christmas decorating and my husband’s ideas. (I’m a “Chevy Chase/Christmas Vacation” kind of person and my husband is more like “A Charlie Brown type of Christmas tree is more than sufficient.”)
The laser light itself is weather resistant, comes with an extra long lawn stake, and has 2 laser modes which allows you to choose red and green lights or green lights only. All you have to do is stick the stake in the ground, easily screw the laser light onto the stake and plug it in. That’s it.
The Star Shower Laser Light claims to cover up to 3,000 square feet and to operate in temperatures from minus 30 degrees to 100 degrees Fahrenheit. And because the lights have a sensor that detects light, they turn on automatically when it’s dark and turns itself off in daylight which means you don’t need any timers.
So, did it work?
Here are a few shots, which I admit aren’t that great but it was cold, icy, and dark (obviously) when I took these pictures. We were still playing around with the positioning as I took these…
I personally love them almost as much as I’d love to have my entire house outlined with traditional Christmas lights. But since that’s not going to happen with our steep roofline, I’m happy to have these.
A FEW NOTES…
-
Since the laser lights only work when it’s dark, when you first open the package to test the lights, you either have to test them out in a dark room or block the sensor (on the bottom of lens) to fool it into thinking it’s dark.
-
At or below freezing temperatures, the Star Shower may take up to 10 minutes to warm up and reach its full projection strength.
-
The cord on the projector lights are pretty short so you’ll most likely need a long extension cord, depending on where you’re placing it.
-
The darker it is, the brighter the lights. If you have a lot of lights on or a big street lamp that hits the area you’re decorating, the lights will appear dimmer.
After buying one, we ended up buying a second one to better hit all the angles of our home. After I bought the first one I read all the online reviews and found the majority of reviews were positive and that people would buy another or recommend it to a friend. The few complaints I found were that when it snows or you have freezing rains, it will stop working but once it has defrosted/dried out, it works just fine. About 1% of the reviews I read said the unit stopped working after a couple of days but once they were exchanged, the buyers were happy and again, they’d recommend it.
The As Seen On TV commercial shows a house that is really lit up and super bright but I did read that for the commercial, they used 4 laser lights so it would be much brighter than if you only used one.
A few more shots as we set up…
If you buy the Star Shower Laser Light from the As Seen On TV website you’ll pay $39.99 plus $9.99 shipping and handling. Sears, Kmart and Bed Bath & Beyond also sell them for $39.99 (you can also find it at other stores.) I bought mine at Bed Bath & Beyond using a 20% off coupon which helped bring the price down a bit.

I typically spend at least $40 each year replacing our traditional Christmas light strands that no longer work or that are broken. Most years I have to replace at least a couple of strands during the month of December because the deer and squirrel chomp through all the wires so for me, this will actually not only save time and wear and tear on the body, but money.
One thing I want to point out in case you’re the kind of person who doesn’t read the directions is that the further the distance to the surface, the more coverage you’ll get, up to a point of course. (There are directions with suggestions as to how far away to place your laser light according to how much coverage you want.) If you put the lights right up next to a surface, they will be blurry. (One of the complaints I read in the various comments was that the lights were blurry so they kept moving them closer, and the closer they moved them, the more blurry the lights…) Read the directions! (Ha!)
You can also use the laser light in your home. There is a separate Star Shower Base for $9.99 you can buy to set the system in for indoor use if you want or you could always place the stake in a potted plant to secure it.
If I could add one thing that would make this better, it would be a taller stake you could buy for those of us who have steep yards.
Do I love this? Yes! Did it work for us? Yes! Did it save us hours and hours of putting lights up while making both my husband and me happy with the effect? Definitely yes!
If you have a Star Shower Laser Light we’d love to hear what you think about it…good or bad reviews.

James Cannady says
I purchased mine from Bed Bath and Beyond, worked for about two days with both the red & green lights. Then only the red light would come on. I’ve tried the switch on the top but it doesn’t seem to make a difference. I’d like to take it back to Bed Bath and Beyond for another one but I can’t find my receipt.
While it worked, looked nice for just the one unit. To make it look better or come close to looking like the advertisement, you’d need at least two or more. Also the further you are away from the house, the dimmer the lights seem to be.
Tammy says
Thanks for your input James. My husband bought 4 for his business and 1 did stop working. So far, after a couple of weeks, both of mine are still working great. You know, you might call Bed Bath & Beyond and see if you could at least exchange it.
Cynthia DeVaux says
I had the same experience as James. I bought 2. One you have to go out turn it off then back on and cover the lense to get the light to come on. The other only lets the green light burn. No red. I love the lights. I can’t take these back to store as receipt is gone. Plus they are not getting anymore in.
Tammy says
Thanks for your comment Cynthia…I’m hoping that they can fix that issue before they sell them again next year.
Cristina says
Hi!is there a way to activate the light sensor (so that it can go on/off by itself)? Or is mine not working?
Thank you,
Cristina
Tammy says
Cristina…Once you plug them in and wait a few minutes for them to warm up, if they don’t come on, push the button on. Sometimes for whatever reason my switch on one seems to not work as well. But typically, once plugged in and warmed up, they should come on and off by themselves, depending on the light. They won’t come on until total darkness. You could take them in to a dark room and plug it in to see if it works…but try pushing the button cause that was an original “problem” I had last year and it just wasn’t originally turned on. Hope they work and happy holidays to you.

I am a professional designer with plants and am called upon to do Christmas lighting, THIS is a great product.
A friend and I decided to try it on my home and it was stick the stake in the ground, adjust and Voila!
I am sorry to hear there may be some product quality issues as per the first response. I have not encountered any of these and would recommend this product. Take it back if it didn’t work……..find the bill on your credit card. This usually works. Everyone in Arizona sold out!
Tammy says
Thanks for sharing your experience with this Lulu…I personally am still loving ours. Our stores are sold out too. Again, thanks for your comment. Merry Christmas!
Mark says
Loved it for about a week. Now it won’t come on dead.
Tammy says
Oh I am sorry to hear that Mark! That is the one thing that I keep hearing is happening. So far, I’ve had good luck but I know others who have had the same problem. Hope you took it back and got your money or perhaps an exchange?
Gary says
Bought three lights. Have used for two weeks. One only shows green and can not change to both green and red. Any suggestions on what to do now.
Tammy says
Gary..my suggestion is to exchange it. I’ve read that once that happens, you can’t fix it. I have the 2 which still work great. My husband bought 4 for his work and had to take 1 back. I think that if they can get each model to work more evenly, there would be no complaints…cause if they work, they look great!
Shirley worrell says
My cord is broken how can i get it repair
Tammy says
Shirley, I haven’t read of anyone having that particular problem. I would suggest you try and return it if you bought if from a store versus online. Of course you can return it if you bought it online but at this point, you wouldn’t get a replacement probably before Christmas.
Denise says
I recently purchased the star shower and loved it for 1 week. After a week the red light does not work the green is just fine. Any suggestions? It broke 3 days ago I really wanted it for xmas. I don’t want my money back I would just like another one. Now I have to pay shipping 3 times. Very disappointing.
Tammy says
Oh Denise…glad you loved it but sorry about that light! You must have ordered it online with the shipping – I try not to since you can buy most of those products in the store without the shipping. I wish I could tell you where to return it for another but every store around here is sold out of them. I’m hoping if they come out again next year they get the bulb problem worked out.
Denise says
Thank you. I bought it on line because all stores were completely sold out. Hopefully they will send me a new one with no shipping charges
Tammy says
Denise…I hope they send you a new one too…without shipping charges. But if they charge you again, let me know. Would be interested in asking why. Merry Christmas to you.
Denise says
I am pleased to let you know I emailed the company and they are sending another one out at no charge. Was so glad to hear that I will purchase more for my pool.
Tammy says
Denise…that’s great! Thanks for updating us. Merry Christmas!
Cindy says
My husband bought 1 light 2 weeks ago. We loved the ease of use and the resulting display. It is Christmas Eve our grandchildren and great granddaughter are here and of course tonight it stops working.. I did not keep the receipt Merry Christmas everyone it is a great product when it is working.
Tammy says
Oh Cindy! So sorry it stopped working when it did and the grandchildren didn’t get to see them. Thanks for sharing and Merry Christmas to you. (Mine are still working so we’ll see how they do next year.)
Marie says
I want to use them for my niece’s fairy party to shine on the candy table and children’s table. However, I do see they don’t work in the daytime. Do you think it would work if I covered the sensor with a piece of tape or something? It would be like “tricking” into thinking it’s dark.
Tammy says
Hey Marie…To be honest, I don’t really think they would work with tape or something. It doesn’t come on unless it’s totally dark and I don’t think the tape would quite do it. If you can find them in a store right now you could always buy one, see if it works, and if not, return it. Some twinkle lights/Christmas lights would look cute if wrapped around the tables too. The party sounds great, your niece is going to love it.
Brian C Lasher says
Great product but, it stoped working all together.won’t turn on at all after using for one Christmas season.
Tammy says
Brian, that is the one thing I heard last year…used once and then wouldn’t work. I am seeing a new version out this year that claims they have fixed the problems…we’ll see. (I also noticed they raised the price by quite a bit since last year.) But when it does work, it’s fabulous!
Camella says
I also bought mine last year. It worked great but this year it will not turn on. I called the company today and they just said I would need to purchase another. Ugh
Tammy says
Camella…again, I haven’t plugged mine in yet this year and now I’m kind of dreading it! But I will say, for the time last year, I kind of felt like it was worth every penny, even if it doesn’t work this year. That’s how much I loved the look. But fingers crossed, mine will light up! And hopefully the new model this year will work better than last! Appreciate your comment!
Joyce Guenther says
We bought the star shower laser lights this year but after coming on twice, they’re not coming on at night. We bring into the house and they work. What could be the the problem. They’re not the remote kind.
Tammy says
Joyce…are you letting them warm up? Sometimes I can have one turn on outside and then the other one can take up to 10 or 15 minutes, depending on where it is in the yard. Also, is there a lot of ambient light outside? I haven’t heard anyone say they work indoors but not outdoors. Anyone else have this problem? I’d try again outside, let them warm up really good and then see what happens.
